Gray

I remember
She woke up one moment
And began tugging at the rays
Of sun
She seized as a child

Lost her train of thought
Actually laughed
And perhaps even smiled

She began to recall
When her eyes were the brush
The world was her canvas
When gray was only a shade

For some reason
No one had to tell her
She was wasting away
In a cold, damp cellar
Collecting dust

Protected by shadows
It must stop it must
She began to fear
The chains
That kept her secure

I remember
She woke up one moment
Her eyes now the brush
The world now her canvas
And gray now only a shade

She stayed awake
Seizing new rays of sun
As the old ones
Started to fade
