New Year 2013!

Happy New Year everyone! Last night Yapi and I went to Asakusa to spend New Years at the Sensoji Temple. It's a fairly famous temple in Tokyo, with the Kaminarimon Gate, so it will full of people and tourists. Beforehand, we walked to a nearby Burger King and got coffee and watched Bridesmaids on my laptop. Fast food places in Japan are considerably nicer than the average joint in the US, and people often kill time in them. The movie was pretty great, and we headed right across the street to the temple afterwards.

Oh god, it was super crowded. There was a huge line of people starting at the gate, and it took us nearly an hour of waiting to get to the actual temple. It wasn't so bad, and they did the countdown while we were in line. It was in Japanese, so it was the first time I was in a countdown and wasn't entirely sure which number they were on, haha. There were a million cops everywhere keeping people in order, but doing this in Japan is apparently much easier than other places. When we finally got to the front, we threw some coins into a giant enclosed space on the floor. There was a cop in a cage (so coins wouldn't hit him) just hanging out and watching everyone. Then we ran off to the side where there were tons of food tents. We got takoyaki, yakitori, okonomiyaki, and a chocolate covered banana. It was so good, auuugh. It was really fun, though maybe next year I won't go to such a popular temple. It was in walking distance from our place, though, so at least we didn't have to pay for the subway.

Also, last night I dreamt that our apartment building fell down in an earthquake, but we weren't inside. Also I dreamt that I was fighting people with a katana and it was such a fun dream, damn, I want to have it again.

Anyway, hope you all have a great 2013!
