Wow, it's been a while since I last made an entry, but I'm guessing it's been a while for all of you too since no one has any entries showing up in my friends' window. Don't you love me anymore? Don't you want to tell me all about what's going on with you? Don't you want to at least respond to my e-mails/phone calls/desperate pleas for attention (you know who you are!)?
But enough of that, I could write some stuff down about the chemist here, but I think you'd all be more interested in hearing about my crazy busy weekend. Then again, since no one is writing their own entries, who is to say you'll even notice I wrote this one, so I guess I'm really just talking to myself, and, since I'm more interested in hearing about my crazy busy weekend, that's what I'm going to write about.
So, my crazy busy weekend started on Friday morning when I drove out to South Hadley all by my lonesome for my two-year college reunion at Mount Holyoke. So, now, not only is rt. 128 my bitch, but I've also conquered the Pike and soon I will rule all the highways! Mwahahahaha! Reunion was kind of fun, but it was weird to be there without any Elizabeths or a Carolin. Well, actually, I ended up talking to an Elizabeth on Friday night, but it just wasn't the same. So, really, it was kind of boring. :-( But I did get to go to a fun class on Friday afternoon called "Moral Absolutes from a Liberal Perspective". It was awesome to be back in the philosophy department, taking a "class" from one of my old profs, especially with all the old ladies who showed up. Unfortunately, this one guy kept raising his hand and I know that we had men in our classes at MHC, but I really wanted him to shut up and just let the women talk to really get the feel of a women's college class. It also didn't help that he kept saying stupid things, but I guess he couldn't really help that. :-P
Friday night, we stayed in MacG, which was nice because I had never seen a room there before, but it was really noisy and too hot. I missed my apartment. Saturday morning was the Virgin Parade. We were all worried it was going to rain because there were a couple of huge downpours earlier in the morning. For those of you that don't know or don't remember, MacG is probably about as far from Chapin (where we were supposed to gather by 8:30 for the parade) as can be. So, of course, as we were walking clear across campus in our pretty white clothes with red suspenders, it started to drizzle, and then it started to pour! We got totally drenched!!!! Luckily, no one's clothes were too see through and the suspenders were nice enough not to bleed all over us -- that would have sucked! When the worst of the rain was over we all ventured out of the various buildings we had run into to pile into Chapin to have the parade inside. :-( But then they announced that the seniors had decided they wanted to try to go outside and since it wasn't really raining too much anymore, that's what we did. But we were all still soaking wet and it was only like 50 degrees outside. Brrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
In the afternoon, I went to the philosophy an CS department open houses. I was the only one there at the philosophy one, but I got to talk with Sam a whole bunch. He wants me to come back some time next semester to give a talk on what one can do with a philosophy major. I think that's pretty funny. I could say, "What can you do with a philosophy degree? Well, you can stay in school and get a degree in computer science! Tada!" I do think it would be fun, though, to go back, so I hope they decide to invite me. After philosophy, I went to visit the CS department which has moved to the 2nd floor of Clapp. I saw all of my old professors, and I still don't like them very much. One in particular, my "thesis" advisor, still really pissed me off. I told him what I was doing in school and he sort of leaned back and nodded approvingly like he knew all along I would end up doing NLP. It just kind of pissed me off that he would act like he had anything to do with it. He just looked so smug. Bah!
Anyway, reunion was extra special because whenever anyone asked me what I was up to, I got to say, "Well, I'm getting my masters in computer science tomorrow!" And I did! I can't believe I've got my first graduate level degree. That's so cool! Of course, now, I feel like I don't really have a good excuse not to be doing more PhD-y things, but I really just want to take a week off. Oh, well, maybe in July -- first we have to write this pesky book. I guess I should really get back to work, then. Tell me what's a-happening with you!
