Title: Come Back To Be With Me Again
Pairing: Kangin/Sungmin
Kangin and Sungmin had been fighting and arguing lately. When it happens, they ignore each other for a few days. Sungmin would get himself busy with work. Kangin would get himself closer to Eeteuk.
Eeteuk was a very good friend… so good that Kangin was starting to fall for him. Sungmin could sense it but Sungmin knows that Eeteuk won’t cheat with Kangin because he really was a very good friend and that’s why he doesn’t mind if Eeteuk and Kangin started to spend more time together.
Kangin and Sungmin’s situation grew worst and became more violent as they started throwing things at each other and leave bruises against each other’s bodies. Kangin would always turn to Eeteuk, who would take care of his injuries. Sungmin would simply be left alone with a first aid kit.
When Kangin asked for them to break up, Sungmin wasn’t surprised. In fact, he had been expecting it for a while now so he agreed to it. Since then, Sungmin’s days had been peaceful… and lonely. He wondered if Kangin asked Eeteuk to be his boyfriend. He wondered if they are a couple now. He wouldn’t be surprised if they did become a couple.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It’s been a week since they broke up. It’s ironic because when they were together, Sungmin really hated Kangin but now that they’re apart, Sungmin was missing his presence badly. Why is love such a stupid thing?
Sungmin called Eeteuk. He wanted to see and talk with Eeteuk alone.
“How is Kangin?” Sungmin asked before blowing his hot coffee and taking a sip.
“I’ve never seen him happier.” Eeteuk replied honestly. “I think he must really be happy breaking up with you. No offense.”
“None taken.” Sungmin wasn’t offended. He just felt hurt. No big deal. Sarcasm really.
“What about you? How have you been doing?” Eeteuk asked. Sungmin could sense that Eeteuk’s concern was really sincere. He was really a good friend and that’s why Sungmin wanted to hate him but he doesn’t.
“I really miss him.”
“You should tell him that.”
“He’s happier without me. There’s no point in telling him.”
Eeteuk doesn’t know how to reply to that.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Eeteuk, I really like you. It’s been a while since I’ve felt this way about you.” Kangin confessed.
“Sungmin still loves you.” Eeteuk blurted out instead of accepting or rejecting Kangin’s feelings.
“And how do you know that?” Kangin had an annoyed tone in his voice after hearing Sungmin’s name.
“Because he told me that he missed you and he doesn’t look good.”
“You met up with him?”
Eeteuk nodded. “He called me and asked me to see him. Then he asked me how you were doing and I said that you’ve been happy since you broke up with him. When I asked him how he was doing, he said he missed you. I told him that he should tell that to you but he said there’s no point because you’re happy without him.”
Kangin can’t believe what he was hearing. Anger started to build up in him as he stormed out of Eeteuk’s house. He drove fast with his car and barged in Sungmin’s house, surprising Sungmin with his unexpected visit.
“Why are you messing with Eeteuk?”
“What are you talking about?” Sungmin was confused.
“You met up with him and told him that you missed me. Bullshit. You’re just saying that because you know that if Eeteuk thinks that you still love me, then he would likely reject me.”
Oh. So that’s what Kangin is being all angry about. Sungmin wanted to lie and tell him that yes, that was his plan because he doesn’t want Kangin to be happy but that would lead to a bigger fight and argument. Sungmin wanted to tell the truth but he knew that Kangin wouldn’t believe him. Sungmin doesn’t know what to say so only one word came out from his mouth. “Sorry.”
Kangin was taken aback because Sungmin never apologized to him. He was even more shock when he saw tears starting to fall from Sungmin’s eyes. “What the heck are you crying for?”
Sungmin hastily wiped the tears on his cheeks but the tears continued to fall down so he turned his back so Kangin wouldn’t be able to see him cry. “I’m sorry.” Sungmin said again.
“What are you apologizing for?”
“For…” Sungmin’s voice hitched because he was crying. “For not being able to make you happy.”
Kangin walked out of Sungmin’s house because he can’t take the sight of a crying Sungmin or the sincere words coming out from Sungmin’s mouth. He doesn’t want to believe Sungmin. He wanted to believe that everything was just an act to make him come back to Sungmin and leave Eeteuk.
~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kangin visited Sungmin again three days later because he wanted to make sure that Sungmin and he had regained some composure so they could talk it out calmly whatever they need to talk. “I still don’t believe you.” Kangin stated.
“I don’t believe myself either.” Sungmin retorted. “For being so fucking in love with you and getting so emotional to the point of crying my heart out in front of you and missing you so badly that I’m about to go crazy.”
Now that was a confession that Kangin didn’t expect to get from Sungmin. “So you really still love me?”
“If I say yes you won’t believe me anyway so I might as well say no.”
Kangin ran his fingers through his hair. It was a sign that he was getting frustrated.
“Why do you come here to ask these stupid questions, Kangin?”
Why indeed. Kangin doesn’t know how to answer that question.
“Just go and be happy with Eeteuk. Don’t come to see me anymore.” Sungmin felt like crying again. He hated himself for it. Why was he getting so emotional lately? He wasn’t this emotional when he had fights with Kangin in the past.
Kangin saw a single tear escape from Sungmin’s eye. Unconsciously, his hand reached out to wipe it away surprising himself and Sungmin with that simple gesture. “Do you remember when we first met? You were crying because you were being bullied. I had to fight off those bullies and wipe your tears.”
This time Sungmin didn’t stop his tears from falling. Kangin hugged Sungmin and rubbed Sungmin’s back, trying to calm him down from crying.
“Do you want to eat ice cream?” Kangin asked when Sungmin stopped crying. Ice cream always made Sungmin feel better after crying but it’s been a long time since Sungmin cried except three days ago.
Sungmin felt like crying all over again because why the heck is Kangin reminiscing their past?!?! “Ice cream sounds good but you’ll have to change your shirt first.”
The shoulder and chest part of Kangin’s shirt was really wet from Sungmin’s tears. Kangin found out that he still have some of his clothes left in Sungmin’s cabinet. Sungmin didn’t throw out Kangin’s clothes since they broke up so Kangin can’t help but think that Sungmin probably still really loves him.
They ate their ice cream silently on the couch while watching some comedy show on T.V. They weren’t exactly laughing or watching the show since they were both absorbed with their own thoughts.
“It’s getting late. I should go back. Eeteuk might be worried.” Kangin suddenly announced.
So that’s it. In the end, Kangin chose Eeteuk over him. What the heck was Sungmin expecting anyway? Stupid feelings of disappointment. Sungmin was angry and bitter at himself. “You know the exit. Feel free to leave.” Sungmin didn’t bother to hide the angry and jealous tone in the voice.
“I’ll come over tomorrow.”
“You don’t have to.”
Kangin left.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
But true to his words, he visited Sungmin’s house the next day.
Stupid feelings of hopefulness and happiness. Sungmin had to compose himself as to not let a smile form on his lips. “What are you doing here?”
“I did say that I’ll come over.”
“I remember saying that you don’t have to.”
“But I want to.”
“Why? Aren’t you supposed to be happier without me? Aren’t you supposed to be busy courting Eeteuk or something? Why are you still coming here?”
“Do you really want me to stop seeing you and just move on and go on courting Eeteuk?”
“Isn’t that what makes you happy?”
“Maybe I’ll be happier that way but do you want to know when my happiest moments were? It’s when we had our first kiss, when we made love for the first time and when you said you love me after a year of being together. You know what your problem is Sungmin? You just don’t know how to express your feelings properly and that’s why it turns into a form of anger which leads us to a lot of fights and arguments so I thought I was sick of it all. I thought I fell out of love with you and started to fall in love with Eeteuk but why the hell do I keep on coming back here?!?!?!”
Sungmin stepped back and opened his door wider. “Come in. The neighbors are staring at us.”
Kangin went inside. They cooked and ate lunch together. It was weird and awkward. Then Kangin had to leave after lunch stating that he promised Eeteuk to do some grocery shopping together.
“I really hate it.” Sungmin blurted out.
“Hate what?” Kangin asked. His hand was already touching the doorknob.
“How you always go back to Eeteuk by the end of the day but I don’t want to ask you to choose between him and me because I fear of what you might answer.” Sungmin expressed his feelings. It was strange how the words came out from his mouth easily when he usually has a hard time expressing his thoughts and feelings into words.
“Ask me to stay.”
Sungmin’s mouth refused to cooperate. Why the heck is he having a hard time asking Kangin to stay? Seeing how Sungmin simply stood there in silence, Kangin turned the doorknob and opened the door. But before he could step out of the house, he felt Sungmin’s arm wrapped around his waist. He felt Sungmin’s chest against his back. He felt the beating of Sungmin’s heart.
Kangin closed the door. He took his hand away from the door knob. He turned so he could face Sungmin. “If you did this to me when I asked for a break up, I wouldn’t have gone through with the break up. You should know by now how much you mean to me. You know I can’t refuse you.”
“So if I ask you to come back and be with me again, would you really do that?” Sungmin asked with a hesitant tone.
“I need two reasons to be able to do that. I already have the first reason which is I still love you and even if there are moments when I’m angry and hated you, Eeteuk still can’t compare to you. I guess at some point I fell in love with Eeteuk because of his kind heartedness but my true love is you. Now, give me the second reason why I should come back to you.”
Sungmin wasn’t able to give him the second reason. He hated himself for not being able to say it. He knew that Kangin was disappointed in him too but nevertheless, Kangin stayed with him for the rest of the day and for the whole night.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kangin woke up and saw a giftbox on the bedside table. He read the card which said “Happy Birthday! From Sungmin”
Kangin actually forgot the today was his birthday with all the turmoil and whirlwind of emotion between him and Sungmin. It was nice that Sungmin actually remembered his birthday. He inspected the box. It was small and light. He shook it. He felt that the box was empty. He carefully opened it and indeed, the box was empty. But there were some writings inside.
I love you. Please accept my heart.
Kangin laughed because what the heck… that was cheesy but he really liked it anyway.
“Where did you learn to do this kind of stuff?” Kangin asked when he went downstairs and found Sungmin in the kitchen. He held the giftbox in front of Sungmin’s face.
Sungmin blushed and turned away to make himself busy with cooking breakfast.
“It’s my birthday today so won’t you grant my wish and say these words to me?”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“If you won’t say it, I’ll go out and celebrate my birthday with Eeteuk instead.”
“Is that a threat?”
“You know it’s an empty threat.”
Sungmin turned around to see Kangin having an expectant look on his face. “I’m sorry I didn’t get to buy you a birthday gift. Seeing as to how we broke up weeks ago, I didn’t expect us to be celebrating your birthday together so I hope this will suffice.” Sungmin placed his hands on Kangin’s shoulder and dragged him down so he could kiss Kangin properly.
“I love you.” Sungmin said against Kangin’s lips before kissing Kangin again more deeply this time. “Please accept my heart.” Sungmin took Kangin’s hand to place it on his chest and feel his heart beating.
“I’ll gladly accept your heart and be with you again.” Kangin found the second reason why he and Sungmin should be together again.
