At The Sideline of Love chap 2
Journal # 2 - A New Friend? Sunday
The day started as a bad day for me.
There was no sunshine. It kept raining for the whole morning. I opened the refrigerator and cabinets to look for something to eat, only to find none. There was no more food left and I was hungry. I decided to go to the grocery store, which is a few blocks away. A car passed by a muddy puddle and I was hit with by the mud. Angrily, I went back in the apartment to change my dirtied clothes. This time I decided to wear a raincoat instead of just holding an umbrella. Then I found out that I left my wallet in the apartment when I was half way to the store. On my way back to the apartment, my foot slipped and I fell on a puddle of mud. It was definitely not a good day.
Skyler was stomping his way back to his apartment. He didn’t notice that he had just passed by a silvery gray haired person with blood red eyes. He didn’t notice who this person was at all.
“Are you okay?” A familiar voice asked Skyler.
Skyler turned and replied with all the anger he felt. “NO!!! I’m NOT okay!!! I’m hungry, wet and mad!!!” He fumed. Then he just realized who he shouted at and started to stutter. “D-Darwin?!”
Darwin chuckled at Skyler’s startled look. “You’re actually cute getting all angry and startled.”
Skyler managed to blush despite the cold rain surrounding him. “Um..I-I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to…uh…shout at you…” He apologized.
“Aaaww….now, you’re blushing…wait, did you just stutter?” That only made Skyler blush more as Darwin said it. “I didn’t know that you stutter. This is a first time I heard it.” Darwin said in a happy tone.
“I’m just a human being, ya know.” Skyler still blushing, looked away.
“I know. It’s just that you act more like a robot instead of a human being.” Darwin said, touching Skyler’s pinkish cheeks. “You said you were hungry? I didn’t have breakfast yet. Why don’t we have breakfast together?” He suggested.
Skyler looked back at Darwin and realized how close their face were. Darwin’s hand was still on his cheek. “I act like a robot?” He asked, instead of answering Darwin’s question. “So does that mean you’ve been observing me as well.” Then he realized what he just said and covered his mouth. //Being too near at my crush, makes me do and say strange things. Ugh!!! Now he knows that I’ve been observing him.//
Darwin just smiled. “Yes.” He admitted. “It’s not only me but the rest of the guys in school too. It’s just that they don’t know how to act around you since you always act indifferent. They have no idea how to impress you and you stay silent when a guy tried to talk to you. However, you seem to be talking and reacting towards me. I feel special.”
Skyler blinked. “I have no idea about that.”
“Who could not notice a handsome face like yours?” This time Darwin cupped Skyler’s face. Darwin started to lean, so close, so very close…their lips were already brushing against each other’s when they heard a car, honking. They immediately snapped out of their trance and pulled away.
The car parked right beside them. The window slid down and revealed Kyler’s face. Kyler glared at Darwin before looking at Skyler. Skyler instantly got the message on Kyler’s look. “Oops…I almost forgot that I have another appointment. See ya!” Skyler took off his raincoat and placed it on the car’s mat before going inside the car and sitting beside the driver’s seat. The window closed again before the car left.
Darwin stood there in shock at just what happened. Kyler saw how Darwin looked from the mirror and can’t help but smirk at it. “So what the hell was that about? Don’t tell me that you have some sort of relationship with that guy?” He asked, getting angry again as the scene of Skyler and Darwin about to kiss flashed in his head.
“Why would I be here if I have a relationship with that guy? Heck, I don’t know what got over me, choosing you over my crush…..shit!” Skyler cursed as he realized that his tongue slipped.
“Oh, so you have a crush on him? I’m so sorry for ruining that special moment you were about to have.” Kyler said in a sarcastic tone.
After that, they rest of the ride was in silence. It wasn’t the comfortable silence like yesterday when they spent time together. This time they were surrounded by a tense silence.
“What got you so worked up, anyway?” Skyler decided to break the silence and ask that question.
Kyler had his grip on the steering wheel tighter. He didn’t want to answer the question but he did anyways. “I didn’t like it. I didn’t like how you two were very close. I didn’t like the fact that you were about to kiss him.”
“Do you want me to kiss you instead?” Skyler replied sarcastically. As soon as he finished asking the question, the car suddenly halted. Kyler had a grip on Skyler’s shoulders, pulling Skyler towards him. Before Skyler could react, their lips were crushed in a kiss.
It was a mean lip-lock but fortunately for Kyler, Skyler has no plans of escaping the kiss. Skyler kissed back with equal passion. Their tongues fighting for dominance. Skyler took Kyler’s hair tie and buried his hand on the black wavy strands. Kyler’s hands moved from gripping on Skyler’s shoulder to wrapping around Skyler’s waist. Their position was a bit hard to achieve for the seatbelts are hindrance. Soon, Skyler lost with the tongue battle. He obediently opened his mouth to let Kyler’s tongue enter his mouth, exploring and tasting him.
It was like a scene in the movies. A couple kissing in the car under the rain. Since it was raining hard, there were only a few cars. No one minded the car that stopped moving at the side of the road. Soon, they parted from their kiss with swollen lips. Both moved back to their own seats. Both were thinking of deep thoughts until Skyler’s stomach started to growl.
Skyler flushed in embarrassment. “I didn’t have breakfast yet. I was about to go to the grocery store to buy food since there’s nothing left at the apartment.” He explained.
Kyler started the car engine again. “Okay. Let’s order some take out.” They went to a drive thru in some fast food restaurant and ordered some take-out. Then Kyler took them out of the city and unto a part of a mountain where the whole city can be seen. As Kyler parked the car, they started to eat their breakfast. They were silent for the whole ride and even as they ate their breakfast. They were back to comfortable silence although both are confuse about the kiss.
“So…why are we here?” Skyler asked. They finished eating their breakfast a few minutes ago. Now, they are just sitting and staring at the city.
“This is where I always wanted to be when I want to be alone.” Kyler said, not answering Skyler’s question.
“So why did you bring me here if you want to be alone?” Skyler asked another question.
Kyler shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe I want some company for a change.”
There was a moment of silence.
“We still haven’t introduced ourselves yet.” Kyler said as if he just realized it.
“And yet, we shared a kiss.” Skyler added which made Kyler tense since he was the one who initiated the kiss. “I’m Skyler Sterling. I know who you are, Kyler. I mean who wouldn’t? You’re famous and all.”
Kyler frowned a bit. “I was hoping that you didn’t know me. Me being famous and popular must be the reason why you’re hanging out around me.”
“Think what you want.” Skyler folded his arms and looked away. “Can we go to a grocery store? I want to shop for food.”
Kyler sighed. “As you wish.” He started the engine and they went to the grocery store which was just a few blocks away from Skyler’s apartment. After shopping, they went to Skyler’s apartment.
“I could really get used to this, having a driver and a helper.” Skyler said as they went up the stairs towards his apartment.
“I don’t mind as long as you give me a salary.” Kyler joked, carrying some of the grocery bags.
As soon as they got in Skyler’s apartment, they started placing the food and drink in the refrigerator and cabinets. After that, they went to relax in the living room, which only contains a couch, T.V. and PS2. The apartment was small but well proportioned.
“I’m sorry if my apartment doesn’t fancy your taste unlike your 3-storey house.” Skyler said, sitting on the couch.
“I don’t mind. It feels homey actually.” Kyler said, sitting beside Skyler. “Now that I know where you live, I hope you don’t mind me visiting.”
“I suggest you text me before visiting. I spend a lot of time on the outside.” Skyler said. With that, they exchanged cellphone numbers.
“Do you mind if I call you Sky? You can call me Kyle instead. Skyler and Kyler can be quite tricky on the ears.” Kyler said.
“It’s okay.“ Skyler replied.
We watched a comedy movie on the T.V. Then we played games with PS2. We didn’t talk about the kiss or Darwin or school. We only talked about things that can be related to the movie or the games. We had lunch and dinner together too. It’s amazing how a rich kid like him, who has servants in the house, still knows how to do household chores and cook delicious food. I don’t know why I take off my mask of indifference whenever I’m with him. I’m just glad that I have a new friend. Friend, huh? But friends don’t kiss that way. What does he really feel towards me? What is this feeling that I feel when I’m around him? Well, that’s another thought to think about on another day. Despite the weather and what happened this morning, it is definitely a good day.
