Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry Blossom Festival
Onew/Sungmin

Jinki never attended the Cherry Blossom Festival before because it always happens a week before the examination week and his parents never brought him to that festival when he was young either.  But during his third year in high school, he managed to make friends with Key, who happens to have a wide social network.

Right now Key is trying to convince him to go to the Cherry Blossom Festival.  "Come on, Jinki.  Your brain needs to rest from all that studying and I'm sure you'll still be the top 1.  Besides, Sungmin will be there!!!"

"Shut up, Key!!!"  Jinki blushed in embarassment.  Key had dragged him to a house party one time, got him drunk as they played truth and dare.  Because Jinki was so drunk, he openly admitted on having a crush on Sungmin, who was currently a fourth year student in their school.  Luckily, the rest of the people who entered the truth and dare game were too drunk to remember Jinki's confession except for Key who completely remembered everything.

"So you're going?"

"No.  I'm going to lock the door and windows of my room so there'll be no chance of you dragging me even if my mom let you enter the house!!!" Jinki thought this was a smart plan but too bad for him, Key had a smarter plan.

On the day of the Cherry Blossom Festival...

"Jinki, dear! Your friend is here to bring you to the Cherry Blossom Festival."  Jinki's mom said as she knocked on the room of Jinki's door.

"Tell Key to go away."  Jinki replied as he turned another page of his history book.

"But it's not, Key.  He said his name is Sungmin."

Jinki almost fell out his chair after hearing the name.  "What?!?!?!"  After regaining his balance, he opened his door and instantly bolted down the stairs to see if Sungmin was really in his house.

Indeed, Sungmin was wearing a hakama and sitting comfortably on his couch at the living room.  "Jinki, looks like you aren't ready for the Cherry Blossom Festival yet."

That's when Jinki realized he was only wearing his pajamas.  Now, ain't that embarassing?  "Um... I don't really plan on going."

"It's either you go back up in your room and change your clothes by yourself or I'll help you with changing your clothes.  Take your pick."  As if to show how much Sungmin was very willing help him, Sungmin's hand reached out to unbutton the first button on Jinki's pajama top.

"I-I'll go change... but I'll only wear my casul clothes.  I don't have any hakamas."

"Pity.  I was looking forward to undressing you."

Jinki was blushing madly as he went back in his room to change.

Jinki definitely preferred being dragged around by Sungmin rather than Key.  Sungmin was cute and cuddly while Key was snappy and bitchy.  Jinki honestly had fun in the Cherry Blossom Festival.  At some point they met up with Key and other students from their school but mostly it was just him and Sungmin together.  However, there was still one question he needed to ask Sungmin.  "I'm assuming Key asked you to drag me to the festival.  I want to know why did you agreed to it."

"I wanted to try something different.  All the guys I went out with in the past was mostly because I was interested in them first.  I wanted to try to go out with someone who is interested in me first and yeah, Key did tell me you have a crush on me."  Sungmin giggled.

Jinki doesn't know whether he should thank or kill Key.  Maybe he should do both.  "So you just wanted to try like an experiment.  I see."  Jinki understood yet he felt disappointed.  It would have been nicer if Sungmin went out with him because he was interested in Jinki too but of course, it's not like that.  He wasn't Sungmin's type.  He was just thankful that at least he had fun on this one-time date with Sungmin.

"But you know, for someone who is interested in me, you don't seem to act like one."  Sungmin pointed out.

"There's no point showing my interest in you when you're interested in somebody else.  You always had your eyes on a certain guy, targeting him to be your next boyfriend or date or something."  Jinki shrugged.

"But what about now? I have my eyes on you."  Sungmin stood in front of Jinki and made eye contact with him.

"Kyuhyun is over there."  Jinki pointed with his finger.

"Huh? Where?!" Sungmin's head instantly turned and his eyes scanned the crowd to look for Kyuhyun.  After not finding Kyuhyun, Sungmin looked back at Jinki with a pout.  "You tricked me."

"And you only have eyes for me for like 3 seconds."  Jinki chuckled.  He was currently feeling bittersweet.  Bitter that Sungmin is interested in someone else yet sweet for having such a cute person with him this entire evening.

"I'm not interested in Kyuhyun anymore.  I just wanted to see if he's now with somebody else."  Sungmin explained and continued to pout.

"The fireworks are about to start.  We should find a nice spot to watch."  Jinki took a hold of Sungmin's hand and started to lead him.  For the first time that night, Jinki was leading and not being dragged.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The end of the fireworks signified the ending of the Cherry Blossom Festival and it also signified that Jinki's date with Sungmin is about to come to an end.  His hand reached out to brush the cherry blossom petal on Sungmin's hair.  "Thank you for tonight, Sungmin."

"Thank you too, Jinki.  For a nerd, you're actually pretty nice to go out with.  I guess it's about time for us to go home."  Sungmin moved his hand away from Jinki's hold and started to walk back.

Jinki felt sad and disappointed that their date was over but it was a nice memory that he was going to keep close to his heart.  "

"It's been a month since you last had a boyfriend, Sungmin.  Haven't you gotten over Kyuhyun yet?"  Ryeowook asked.

"I'm over him.  I hate it how everybody seems to think I'm not over him.  He's just like the others, Ryeowook.  Just a short time boyfriend.  I don't feel anything deeper than physical attraction to him.  Okay?!?!"  Sungmin was angry because everybody makes it look like he needed a boyfriend as a proof that he had gotten over Kyuhyun.

"Okay, okay.  I get it.  Calm down."  Ryeowook didn't like an angry Sungmin.  The angry expression just didn't suit on Sungmin's cute face.  "It's just that... you're a playboy, Sungmin, so if you aren't getting a new boyfriend then everybody would think you've fallen deep for Kyuhyun."

"I am interested in somebody, Ryeowook but I just can't get him to be my boyfriend."  Sungmin sighed.

"Woah.. woah... Can't?!?! I don't think there's a single out there who would be able to resist your flirtation and seduction so who's the guy?"  Ryeowook asked with his very interested and very curious tone.

"Jinki."

"The nerd?!?!"

"Yes and don't say that as if being a nerd is a bad thing."  Sungmin was feeling defensive for Jinki.  "And he likes me."

Ryeowook was confused.  "You're interested in him and he likes you.  I don't understand why you can't get him to be your boyfriend."

"Because I'm a playboy.  I get physically attracted to good-looking guys.  I'm going to hurt him if I suddenly get physically attracted by someone while having a relationship with him and I'm afraid that I might be a bad influence to him.  His grades might drop because of me.  He's really nice and good, and I feel like I'm the one who's way out of his league.  He deserves someone better."  Sungmin had been having these thoughts by himself for a month.  It felt a bit better to be finally sharing these thoughts to his close friend.

"Wow! You're in deep shit."  Ryeowook said in amazement.

Sungmin rolled his eyes.  "Having Heechul as your boyfriend is definitely bad for your vocabulary."

Ryeowook chuckled.  "You're so worried about the future, Sungmin.  I say you give it a try.  Things might turn out a lot different from what you think.  You're also a good person too, Sungmin.  I don't think you're going to be physically attracted to some random guy when you're emotionally attracted to Jinki and I have to say it again, you're in deep shit."

"Thanks, Ryeowook.  I have to go."  Sungmin hurriedly placed his things in his bag.

"Where are you going?"

"To Jinki before I chicken out again which reminds me... chicken is his favorite food.  See you later, Wook!!!"

Jinki was about to walk in the classroom but a hold on his arm stopped him from doing so.

"Can we talk?"  It was Sungmin.

"Yeah, sure."  They walked a bit further away from the entrance of the classroom.  "Is there something wrong?  You're sweating a lot."  Jinki used his own handkerchief to wipe the sweat on Sungmin's forehead.

Sungmin blushed at Jinki's affectionate gesture.  "That's because I ran all the way here.  I had to talk to you before afternoon classes start."

"Really? Is it so important that you couldn't just wait to tell me after class instead?"  Jinki simply pocketed the handkerchief casually.

"I haven't had any boyfriend for a month now."

"Everybody knows that."

"Do you think it's because I'm not over Kyuhyun?"

"That's what everybody thinks."

"Well, everybody is wrong.  I like you."  Sungmin confessed.  "My past relationships always started with me being physically attracted to the person then I would do everything to seduce and flirt until that person ends up kissing me but... I'm not physically attracted to you.  I mean we both know you're not my type in the physical aspect at least but... I like you."

"You like the Jinki that you dated in the Cherry Blossom Festival.  You can't really say that you like me when you don't really know me."  The school bell rang signaling the start of the afternoon classes.  "Well, I have to get to class before the teacher arrives."

Sungmin grabbed a hold on Jinki's arm again.  "What do you think I've been doing for a month, Jinki? I have been observing you like a crazy fangirl stalker and I found myself liking you more and more each day, and yet, I'm insecure because to be honest, I feel like I'm the one who's not good enough for you.  I would understand if you reject me, Jinki, but don't ever say that my feelings for you are shallow."

"Aren't you students supposed to be in your respective classrooms?"  The teacher interrupted the drama going on.

"I'll be in the classroom in a few minutes."  Jinki said.

"No, you will go inside the classroom right this instant."  The teacher said strictly.  "And Sungmin, you're the older one.  You should be showing a good example to your dongsaeng."

"See? This is also one of the things why I thought I'm not good for you."  Sungmin ignored the teacher.

Sungmin had always been full of confidence, knowing that he would successfully get the guy he was interested in but Jinki was different.  Sungmin's insecurity was enough proof that his feelings for Jinki were sincere and more serious.

"I'm going give detention to you, Sungmin, since your classroom is far but Jinki, I won't give you detention if you come inside the classroom now."  The teacher said, obviously playing favoritism since Jinki was obviously a good student.

"Then detention it is."  Jinki decided to be a bad student for once as he held Sungmin hand and ran to the hallway and down the stairs leaving the teacher dumbfounded.

"Do you have any idea what you did?! You just skipped classes."  Sungmin said when he and Jinki were both safe inside an empty classroom.

"I never liked that teacher anyway.  I like you much more."  Jinki, once again, wiped the sweat off of Sungmin's forehead but this time, he only used the back of his hand.

Sungmin held Jinki's hand and placed a kiss on his palm before moving to kiss on his lips.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"I'm sorry for disturbing your studies but it's the Cherry Blossom Festival tonight."  Sungmin looked nervous as he sat on the couch in the living room unlike last year when he was simply full of confidence.

"You're thinking that I might not want to go."  Jinki predicted.

"Well, you've always been serious with your studies and I just practically forced you last year, and we weren't boyfriends yet, and you had a long time crush of me so of course, you wanted to go last year but this year..."

"This year, I still want to go with you."  Jinki kissed Sungmin's insecurities away.  "The Cherry Blossom Festival was the start of everything in between us so it's important to me."

"I'm glad we both feel the same way."   Sungmin said as he looked forward to another kiss beneath the Cherry Blossom tree.
