Just when I thought that I have had my fair share of cruel customers, I met one today. A man came and asked to open a PO Box. I gave him the paper he needed to fill out and then I called my supervisor on the phone because I don't know how to open a PO Box. I was willing to try it for the first time. I gave him the bottomost box, but he said he wanted something higher (in a very demanding voice). I looked for another one, but my supervisor who was on the line listening to everything said that I should just give him the box and tell him that we don't have anymore. This was due to the fact that the guy was very rude. So I told the guy that. The guy said that he wanted my supervisor to come to the post office so he could talk to her. I told him that my supervisor wasn't working that day.
So he said that he should get a discount because the box was too low. My supervisor heard this a blew a fuse. She told me to tell him to come Monday morning so she would do it, then she hung up. That left me all alone with no idea how to open a box. So I told the guy that I can't do it by myself because I wasn't trained to do so. I told him that he should come tomorrow morning. He said that he can't because he was flying out tomorrow. What can I do! I don't know how to do it and rather than make serious mistakes with opening the box, I would rather have my supervisor to open it. The man got mad and said, "You are useless, your supervisor is useless and this post office is useless!"
I felt my energy drain from me after that. I served the next gentleman, and after I served him he said that the guy was an old "bastard" and he would kick his ass for me. That made me smile a bit. But the damage is done. I was really willing to open the PO Box for him, but I needed my supervisor to help me with the steps. My supervisor was so pissed so I couldn't talk to her. Sigh... It's just one of those days.
