After two and a half hours of working, I am allowed a fifteen minute break. So I timed out, but due to the backlog of parcels in the back. I had to work on those before nine o'clock. So I did that. Then came a customer who asked why I was on break. She then called the manager, and asked him why there isn't a reliever. It's just the way it is, there is only one post office worker from six to nine. Then she asked me why I was still working while I was on my break. I told her that there was a backlog so I really have to do it despite my break. It would be the only time I would be able to do it. She told me that no, during my break I should be out. If I was there, then customers come first.
She was so mad. So that when I signed back in. She got my name, my supervisor's name, the manager's and pictures of the whole post office. She told me that they would hear from her and she will raise hell about this . At least when she left, she said goodnight.
The girl who came next was Filipina like me and she told me that I should have stayed away so that the lady would have no one to blame. Partly she was right, but with all the work at the back, I really had to do it.
I just realized that no matter what I do, there would always be a complaint. Some may see themselves to be in the right. I just really felt like I needed to do my work even though I'm on break. I'm sure the it felt like a slight to the lady that I'm still there and that I'm not serving her. But it was because of the break that I am able to finish the things I needed to do.
This job is draining, but it's so much fun when things go the way they should. I think that I would be seeing more of these people because there are just people like this. Sigh...
