Hairspray on TODAY

Jul 20, 2007 12:38

I got up at 5:30 AM to go see the cast of the Hairspray movie at the Today Show...I've never gone to the Today Show for anything because I don't get up that early...ever. BUT this was a special occasion, since this is the movie cast not the Broadway cast, so they will probably NEVER do another public performance all together like this again.

I got there at about 6:15 a.m. and there were already hundreds of people in line...around the block! Fortunately I still got in and Joshua joined me just in time so he got in too. We started out being in the back of the crowd in front of the stage...waaay back so we couldn't really see anything. Then they started herding people on the side towards the front...we went all the way up to the side of the stage, then around the back of the stage and then finally ended up on the stage right side, wedged between the stage and the Today Show studio...so we got to watch Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera do the news (we soooo do not care about bottled water vs. tap and stories about bad breath...).

FINALLY the dancers came out and got ready to go on stage...meaning the cast was about to come out too! They all passed right in front of us on their way to the stage...can I just say, Zac Efron, why all the makeup?! LOL...Queen Latifah was gorgeous and Nikki was ADORABLE! I took lots of pics, though of course many were obstructed by teeny boppers' large heads screaming for Zac :-/ (I was so annoyed with these people)...I felt bad for James Marsden cuz no one was paying any attention to him (probly cuz most of the girls were 14) so I waved at him as he was waiting to go onstage and he smiled and waved back, so he knows he has at least one fan, lol. They sang a TON of songs (you can see the video here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3041478/) and everybody was fantastic...especially Queen Latifah and James Marsden...and Elijah Kelly did a sick backflip during his solo...he's AMAZING. Nikki is my girl though, I adore her. My only regret is that I didn't get to take a picture with her, but really I was shocked that I even got that close to the stage...and I did get some great close up pics of the cast as they went around signing autographs. (I'll post them when I get home tonight.)
Josh and I went to breakfast afterward and talked about the phenonemon of celebrity and the Hollywood marketing machine. Now I am at work and really tired/wired...but all in all, I am so happy I got my ass outta bed cuz its not often you get an opportunity to see something like this! Yay!
