I went to Disneyland on Friday, courtesy of
scruffyrebel.
solaria organized a bunch of people to go to the park. As it turned out, it was a perfect day to go! The weather was great, sunny, but not too hot. And the attendance was surprisingly low for a Friday. I suppose it's because Spring Break is over for the local schools. So I was quite pleased to see that the wait time, even for the most popular rides, was only around 30 minutes.
When
scruffyrebel and I were walking from the parking deck to the park entrance, we saw this pair of ducks, just hanging out next to the sidewalk as people passed by. They seemed quite relaxed, considering how close they were to all the traffic. They weren't even begging for crumbs or anything, they were just hanging out like they expected people to take their picture.
First stop: Disney's California Adventure!
I don't usually spend much time in DCA, so it was a nice change of pace.
It was almost like really being in California!
The lake was partially drained. I assume they are still working on the new additions to the park, like the World of Color.
FISH FACE!!
This was a rehearsal for the photo pose for the California Screamin' roller coaster.
Sadly, the monitor showing their picture was broken, so mine was the only fish face we got to see.
Awesome! Amazing!
Next up: Toy Story Mania!
This was my first time on this ride. The line is usually super-long. But today the wait was about half an hour, maybe 40 minutes.
Somebody's got a Woody!
The ride is basically a big, 3D videogame. The cars whoosh you from screen to screen, and you fire your blaster at 3D targets to rack up the best score you can.
It's aviatrix Minnie!
Next stop: Disneyland!
Everybody FastPass!
The Rivers of America was drained for construction.
Now you know what lies beneath the surface: a big track for the riverboat, and lighting and fountain equipment for the Fantasmic show.
Into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye!
I'm pretty sure that sign says NOT to pull the rope...
scruffyrebel reaches out to catch Indy. Hey, that rope is pretty precarious. You never know when he'll need a hand.
Big Thunder Ranch is a little petting zoo tucked away behind the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride, off the back path to Fantasyland.
The Animal Du Jour: goats! There was also a big, wooly sheep.
scruffyrebel was apparently an expert goat petter.
But no one petted Sancho, the sad, lonely donkey.
"Please pet me!" he cried. But they all just turned their backs on him.
We had the whole gang together for Big Thunder Mountain!
From one mountain to another.
Next stop: Space Mountain!
These people LOVE the fish face. Seriously.
The pose for this ride: Superhero Punch!
solaria has Superhero Punched out
ryan_and_z's face.
Back onto Indiana Jones' ride!
I think I preferred the fish face. This is what happens when you let folks freestyle.
Cap'n Jack (Sparrow, not Harkness)!
Haunted Mansion!
I like how
spwinkles is sticking with the fish face!
Time for a Pooh!
Look out,
spwinkles! He's gonna get you!
That is one freaky, psychedelic ride. I recommend it.
This was my first visit to Critter Country.
Pooh's Corner was filled with yummy-looking sweets.
I heard that they will be getting rid of the Electrical Parade soon, so one of my goals was to see it. That made it a long day, because
scruffyrebel and I got there at around 10:45 AM and the parade didn't end until about 9:45 PM.
They got eliminated the Electrical Parade from Disneyland before, but then they revived it at California Adventure. I don't know what they're going to replace it with, but I assume they're not just going to revive it again at Disneyland. DCA also has the Pixar parade, so maybe they feel like they don't need two parades.
pinkdiamonddoll and
divine_sage got there early, and staked out a site along the parade route
Tinkerbell!
Peter Pan is nowhere in sight, though.
Come on, ride the train, ride it!
Goofy is at the wheel.
Alice looks a bit melancholy with the underlighting.
Alice in Wonderland had several floats. It never hurts to have a big, new movie in the theatres.
That caterpillar is getting lit!
Princess time!
Cinderella is riding a giant pumpkin!
It's not a normal pumpkin, but it's not the big, silvery-blue coach that the pumpkin turned into. It's like a hybrid of the two.
There was a separate float for Prince Charming and the stepsisters.
A bit odd, since the stepsisters never really hung out with the prince in the movie.
They don't seem to mind, though.
Captain Hook's pirate ship!
He was having a sword fight with Peter Pan.
I wonder if Peter feels jealous of Tinkerbell, now that she's moved onto stardom on her own.
I think this float was for Pinocchio.
This impressive float was Pete's Dragon, from the movie Pete's Dragon, about Pete's Dragon.
Yeah, I know, you never heard of it. They probably just have it in the parade because it's such a cool float. It even breathes smoke, and has Pete riding on the neck.
We are saluting patriotically for the final float in the parade.
It's the big, long, American flag!
Or it's a huge strip of bacon. Either way, it's worthy of a salute.
The Electrical Parade was pretty cool, though it felt shorter than i expected. It was a long, tiring day, and my feet still haven't forgiven me. But we had a great time! And we didn't even eat that unhealthily.
