If your are going to the San Diego Comic-Con International, you may be interested to know that the San Diego Air & Space Museum (
map) is playing host to
Star Trek: The Exhibition. Apparently, the Exhibition is the same thing as
Star Trek: The Tour (read about my February trip to The Tour
here). It seems they changed the name because, due to financial problems, it is now under new ownership. Beats me why there is no info about it on the startrek.com website.
Anyway, this is good news for you people, because this means the tickets are cheaper. $24 for adults, $22 for students, and even less for museum members. The Exhibition is open everyday from 10-6, and while I could find no concrete dates, it should be in San Diego for the rest of the year, give or take. Also, on Wednesday the 23rd (Preview Night), there will be some sort of party event from 7 - 11 PM.
So stay an extra day, or set aside a con day to check out some Trek! Who knows when or where this will be next? And with Star Trek: The Experience in Vegas closing on September 1, there aren't a lot of chances to get immersed in Trek.
Wish I could have told you about it earlier, but I just found out myself!
For the curious among you, here are some pictures of the exhibition:
http://trekmovie.com/2008/06/22/star-trek-the-exhibition-opens-in-san-diego/One cool thing is, they let you take pictures in and among everything! So bring your costumes...
Edit: After some looking around online, it appears that the Exhibition is not the full Star Trek: The Tour. It is smaller, perhaps due to the fact that it must be fit into an existing museum rather than in the big, free-standing dome the Tour was in. No details on what was left out, other than this: The bridge of the Classic Enterprise is still part of the Exhibition, but the bridge of the Next Gen Enterprise is not. It is possible that this will be the centerpiece of a separate touring exhibition later on. Also, the exhibits are described as being smaller, but more interactive. Make of that what you will. Still, it should be a decent exhibit for you Trekkies!
