Private Photoshoot of rurouni-jedi as Himura Kenshin from "Rurouni Kenshin"
Anthony C. Beilenson Park was where scruffyrebel, rurouni-jedi, g-mal, and I spent April Fools' Day. rurouni-jedi was taking pictures of scruffyrebel and myself, but she had the foresight to wear her Kenshin costume, with her Tomoe scarf she made just for the day. So I took advantage of the opportunity to take some pictures of her.
For those who don't know, Kenshin is this red-haired samurai girl who has a big, red multiplication symbol on her face. In the TV show, Kenshin's friend Tomoe dies because she went out in the cold without her scarf on. And there's this scene where Kenshin is all emo because he misses dead Tomoe, so she wears Tomoe's scarf and listens to Linkin Park.

It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people take photos and then process the hell out of them with Photoshop or some similar image editing software, so they barely even resemble photographs anymore. I mean, it's one thing to fix up little errors or whatever, but to apply filter after filter until the image is no longer recognizable seems a little tacky to me.

Even though we went to the park to take advantage of the rapidly-fading cherry blossoms, the twisted, gnarled wisteria seemed more appropriate for Kenshin's Tomoe-scarf-wearing emo-ness.

rurouni-jedi: "No way, that tree looks kind of thin..."
jinyo: "Get your ass up that tree, bitch! I wanna take a picture!"
rurouni-jedi: "Stop calling me names! Why are you being so mean to me?!?"
jinyo: "Shut up and get your ass up that tree before I cram it up your butt!" [throws rock]
rurouni-jedi: [crying] "Stop it! I'm climbing" [sobs]
jinyo: "Higher! Higher, you costumed monkey!"
rurouni-jedi: "It's too high! I can feel the branches swaying!" [crying]
The relationship between the photographer and the subject is vital for taking good pictures. It is crucial that a photographer know how to communicate with and motivate his models.

I'm actually holding that cherry blossom twig in front of the lens in one hand.
In the other hand, I'm holding rurouni-jedi. She's really tiny!

I gotta say, I'm really loving this 16:9 aspect ratio that I totally stole from lionboogy!

This shot reminds me of Lord of the Rings, somehow. rurouni-jedi is an orc. I guess that makes me Peter Jackson.
I better get to the gym..!

Another fine appearance by the legendary rurouni-jedi! You'll have to excuse the plethora of mopey, scarf-clutching poses. Since she had gone to the trouble of making the Tomoe scarf for this outing, I wanted to focus on it in particular, rather than repeating her more popular and oft-seen Kenshin poses.
Just goes to show you, with a great cosplayer and a great location, you can't go wrong!
...I guess I should go back and tell her she can come down out of that tree now...
