Nobody's Stoner Anthem

I'm going out for awhile.

I've been sitting around this evening, taking some time for myself before we go out for Angie's birthday. It's my last semester, and I feel like I've had to keep stealing moments to myself in order to keep me sane. Yep. It's a bitch, but it makes the time I do have to do what I please all that much sweeter. It doesn't get much sweeter than watching my brand new X-Men DVDs... I'm the proud owner of all five seasons of the cartoon that I grew up with. Hells yes. It makes me want a Playstation like whoa, so I can play the awesome game we played at Ben's party last weekend.

I'm also taking time to watch my favorite movie of all time. Yep, it's my favorite. I love it. Can't Hardly Wait appeals to my sense of humor, my hopeless romantic side, and my passion for a great soundtrack. There's a particular song in the movie that I love, called "High" by Feeder:

I'm going out for a while
So I can get high with my friends
I will
I'm going out for awhile
Don't wait up cause i won't be home
Today

Of course, way back in 1998 when I first bought the CD, I never thought about it in terms of "high" meaning on drugs. I still refuse to believe that the song is about drugs. Thinking about it in those terms pisses me off, actually. I always thought about it as an "emotional high" thing. The rest of the words paint a picture of wanting to get away from feeling alone. Actually, looking and listening to the words I can understand that there might be that stoner-imagery. But I just keep looking past it. I think it would harm the meaning the movie holds for me.

It's not about drugs, dammit.
