Climbing

It appears that I've sort of gotten into climbing lately. I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull it off but I've really kept with it and I am super excited about it. I joined the Hoofers and honestly, that was a bit of a waste of money, I haven't really done much with it. I have had a hard time connecting with people and it has been pretty hot and humid to be doing much climbing outside.
But, I got a month long membership with Boulder's Climbing Gym including free rental equipment and a tie in belay class, all for SUPER cheap. I also got nearly new pair of shoes for cheap off of Craig's List and those have been working out well. Since then I have been in the climbing gym once or twice a week... and I am loving it. Really, I am. Also, I have been climbing with my good friend Dana and the bonding time has been awesome. She is a rock star on the wall. (I am always looking for other people to climb with, so if you want to climb with me, let me know)
I'm also really excited to see the progress I have been making. I have gone climbing a couple of times over the past few weeks and it has been great. I have been getting more confident, no more stopping short, no more coming down before I reach the top, no more doubting myself. I have set a few new rules for myself and I am excited about the results. I have decided that I don't get to come down off of the wall unless I reach the top, or fall off. I have also decided to try things that I'm not sure if I can do or not. The new shoes have given me the confidence to use smaller and smaller foot holds and it has opened up a lot of options.
Tonight I really hit some milestones and I am so proud of myself. I made it to the top of not one, but two climbs that I had previously tried and fallen off of. Shit yeah! There are a few clip in climbs that have an incline until about half way up the wall and then they flatten out. One of them I had tried a number of times and hadn't been able to make it over the ridge. Tonight I nailed it, not too hard, right up to the top. Then the even harder one. Why not? Go big or go home, right? It was tough, really so very tough, but I made it. Wow, seriously. It took me a few minutes after that one to even muster the strength to get up to go home but I made it to the top of the wall.
Now I am sitting here, too tired to even change out of my clothes or shower. My hands are parched and caked in chalk dust, my muscles ache and I smell like sweat. I feel so intensely satisfied it is hard to express properly. I love to hurt like this, it feels like success to me.
