Now I'm understanding how you are looking at this..

By timeline you mean a different parallel universe though?

This is the quote I had read, with Orci's response, rather interesting.
"Anthony: So what happens with the destruction of the Kelvin is the creation of an alternative timeline, but what happens to the prime timeline after Nero leaves it? Does it continue or does it wink out of existence once he goes back and creates this new timeline.

Bob: It continues. According to the most successful, most tested scientific theory ever, quantum mechanics, it continues.

Anthony: So everyone in the prime timeline, like Picard and Riker, are still off doing there thing, it is just that Nero is gone."

So I take it that the Picard-timeline is a seperate universe and still going on. Meanwhile we are seeing a different universe!

[Laughs] You realise of course that quantum mechanics is based on string theory and we're talking about the same thing, except I misunderstood your question earlier in the comments!

Nero is gone, from the orirginal timeline - and so is Spock, because he is in the new universe! He avoids the grandfather paradox by virtue of the fact that he can't mess up his own timeline because he isn't in it anymore- but there is an infinite amount of divergent timelines, many of them now being affected by Nero's trip into the past. It would have a cumulative affect, and you could have a scenario where the majority of the parralel universes out there would have Nero in it, rather than Picard.

It's the Time War all over again.
