Your Government at work - ten months later, and just before a European Parliament election...

So, today I found an email from Proinsias De Rossa (an Irish MEP) in my inbox and, as it had been ten months since I'd fired off my email to him, I had to scratch my head for a moment to remember what had annoyed me so much that I'd actually pressed the send button on my email ( Read more... )

Ugh...just ugh. I keep shaking my head and trying to think of something pithy to say, but it's just not coming. I read his reply to what you pointed out and I can only think it's the curse of the Dubya and his shenanigans here.

And really, the craptastic response indicates the author had absolutely no friggin' clue to what you wrote!

I can't believe he did that, and it's made me change my choices for the upcoming election, I can tell you that! if he can't be bothered to read my email properly, then I certainly can't be bothered to vote for him! (Although Ivana Bacik still gets my vote for the by-election)

If he can't take the time to read the opinions of his constituency, then he doesn't deserve one.

Politicians never seem to remember that it's their constituents who put them/keep them in their position.

With all the hoohah going on here at the moment about politician spending, I'm beginning to wonder if there's not a better alternative style of government. I know Communism doesn't work in practice, and democracy is clearly a joke, so what's left? Anarchy?

Ah, but have we truly given democracy a chance? After all, most of the western world practices representational democracy, which is in truth an oligarchy - the nearest we've got to a democracy nowadays, in the traditional ancient greek sense, is the Canton Democracy in Switzerland.

Although that has it's own problems...

A truely progressive anarchic society, like a truely progressive socialist society, suffers from the same flaw - us :-P

In the end, it's not about right and left, it's about taking responsiblility for our actions, and for the world around us.
