Barbwire: Reaction Post ( :-P ) and fic stuff

Jul 15, 2008 15:09

It probably says too much about my evening when I admit I watched 'Barb Wire' last night. I blame it on the paint fumes still lingering from the weekend, when I repainted the panelling in my *cough* front hall (I live in a Victorian two up, two down , ‘square patch’ might be a more accurate description!)

But the weirdest part of the experience was when I said to myself:

Hey, wait a minute, take away the bad acting, the derivative script, the sex changes and all the leather and whips, and this movie looks disturbingly like Casablanca! So I looked it up on the net and, yes, the similarities are deliberate and therefore a blatant rip off homage to the original - but it begs the question...

What disturbed mind in Hollywood came up with the whacked out notion that Pamela Anderson would make a good Bogie? And, while I'm at it -why, oh why, did they ruin one of my favourite movie endings of all time - with the crack of a whip on the airport tarmac, no less?

I’m troubled, I tell you, troubled. Next thing you'll know, they’ll decide to do a remake of the Battleship Potemkin, featuring the cast of 'One Tree Hill' and an insurrection at the local yacht club. No doubt, there will be a very heart wrenching scene in which one of the characters will watch their I-Pod careen down a flight of steps and get run over by a pair of roller skates...

...and I've just doomed myself, haven't I?

On the fic front: I’m working on chapter three of my Who fic, Time Cascade, and trying to make all the technobabble less dry, and actually readable. It won’t be going up tonight (I’m off to pretend I live in ancient Carthage, tonight - trans: gaming night!) but it might turn up on my LJ sometime tomorrow night :-)
