Don't Make Me Angry. (You Won't Like Me When I'm Angry)

Dear Japan Post and US Department of Homeland Security;

FAIL.

No love,

me

To add to the fury of the airport "fun", it seems that the Japan Post office has decided to "indefinitly suspend all airmail delivery of packages over 1lb (453 grams)" to the United States".

I am, needless to say, furious, not to mention incredibly worried and frustrated. I spent a good 3 hours on the phone trying to get to the bottom of this, and have some more calls to make tomorrow. According to the articles and the Japan Post, this was put into place due to stricter US regulations on air mail, and they don't know if it's temporary or if it will be made permenant. They recommend shipping via surface mail (ie. boat), which can take 1-2 months, or going via one of the private companies that still ship. According to FedEx Japan, they will still ship airmail packages over 1lb, but it's more expensive than the Post Office would have been.

Of course, big business with permenant, "certified" accounts are exempted, which just makes me angrier. This is a direct blow against all the American expatriates currently living and working in Japan, whether it's meant to be or not. It's also a blow against all those Japanese living in the US who can now no longer receive care packages from their families. Worse, although the announcement was made in Japanese on the 12th, it didn't reach the English news until yesterday, AND there still hasn't been a single move made on the part of my BOE or JET to notify any of us.

This is making my life more difficult. I don't like it when my life becomes more difficult.

Also, my eyesight went all wonky while I was watching a show a few hours back and it's still blurry and weird. I don't like this either. Irate phonecalls will be made. Let's just hope I can manage not to take it out on the kids I have to test tomorrow.

things that really piss me off
