Funky Funk?

Meh. The news continues to be pretty depressing. Rather missing the Olympics, when most of the stories were inspiring athletes and their stories, and even some of the more critical stuff had a positive flip-side somewhere. Feel free to link me to positive news articles people!

Everyday life things have been surprisingly good. One of the new English teachers at my junior high school has been fantastic so far, though I`m a little nervous to see how our first class together will go tomorrow. But I`m very hopeful about it! I`m also nervous about the new sticker sheets I`m putting together for the kids, and hoping that will be a positive addition to the English course (without breaking my personal bank). I`m at my "bad" school for the next two months, but trying to make the most of it by getting more involved with school stuff outside of my classes, and that seems to be helping. Or, at least, the students seem to be friendly and more willing to say hi or chat with me than they were last year.

I do want to try and swing by my other school sometime though, just to check in. I haven`t met the new teachers or principle there yet, and I want to check on how the English club is doing.

I have a lot of stuff I need to do, and it`s kind of depressing how little seems to be getting accomplished. I have NO idea where the fuck I stand on taxes; I emailed the people who usually do them, but I haven`t heard back from them. I don`t know/understand a thing about them (taxes, that is), so I have no idea what the hell I`m supposed to be doing. Hell, I don`t even know when they`re due, if in fact any are even due from me (as I`m employed in Japan, not the US)~!

I managed to get to the dermatologist on Friday for an itchy rash behind my knee (got some cream and told to come back if it doesn`t improve) but I still haven`t made it to the eye doctor (almost out of contacts) or the dentist (need to have a wisdom tooth yanked out). And, apparently I`ve been here long enough that they`re starting to revoke my gaijin card privileges and treating me more like one of the regular staff... meaning it`s getting a lot harder to get any time off to visit the doc without cutting into my already cut into vacation time. Making this worse? Japanese health insurance is great, but the office hours are shit.

Taxes, bills to pay, appointments to make (somehow), things to mail out, a house to clean, full weekends as far as the eye can see, etc. etc.

On a lighter note though... *snerks* The news thing? Is depressing on it`s own, but I do have to admit to being a wee bit tweaked fandom-wise by depressing stuff about the US and Canada relations. Though, I`d really like that border to be re-thinned for non-slashy reasons as well. And, well, duh, I`d like more positive (news) stuff to be coming out about the US in general.

Tea ceremony is on Sunday. It`s going to be a long weekend.

Osaka retro cosplay dance club event is next Saturday. Wine-tasting event is next Sunday. That`s going to be another long (drunk) weekend.

I need to make another sales post. I also have a few fannish projects I need to finish up and/or edit. And oh dear lord, but I need to get off my ass and get to work on actually improving my Japanese!

*takes a deep breath* I think I need to go find some good fanfic to read. Because if I don`t chill out, I`m going to start hyperventilating.

in the news, work
