By request I'll post my short explanation of what has been happening in Gundam 00. If you have not seen the show and do not wish for spoilers then DO NOT CLICK ON THE CUT.
These are my own observations and inferences. If you disagree, then too bad.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away was a man named Schuhenberg. He decided he didn't like war. So in his elitist attitude he gathered up lots of rich and smart people that thought the same as him. They all ran off into space and created Celestial Being with the idea of making super advanced war machines known as Gundams. It turns out the core of these machines, GN drives, can only be created near Jupiter. No explanation why. Only 5 are created apparently. Well, you can't run off with the world's brightest minds and not draw attention. So, some secret group decides to FOLLOW CB into space. One of their teams find a wrecked CB ship. Cause of wreckage unknown. In this ship they find Evil Haro. Haros are merely data terminals to Veda, CB's main super computer and data store. They take Evil Haro back and in secret the Trinity Thrones and "fake" GN Tau drives are created. Fast forward to current time.
When CB decides to announce themselves to the world to stop war they are being secretly backed by some of the world's richest and most powerful people. They all gather secretly as the Secret Art Appreciation Society so no one knows who anyone else in CB is. When you get there you'll understand. One member was Lagna Harvey. He controls the trains on the orbital elevators and was helping smuggle the Gundams into orbit. It turns out he was also the leader behind the faction that created the fake GN drives and was giving Trinity orders specifically to rile up the world and make them hate CB even more. He also decides to give the rest of the world 30 fake GN drives to help fight CB. The only surmisable reason for this is to gain HUGE IOUs from the world's governments and become a war profiteer since he is handling their distribution, but it hasn't been fully explained yet.
Enter the CB observer and UN employee named Alejandro and his fucktoy Ribbons. On the surface they appear to be normal agents of CB. When Trinity shows up they are surprised. They present the info to the Secret Art Appreciation Society and ask what is to be done. When Trinity is supported as part of CB he seems pleased. But this is only because it draws attention off him and Ribbons. Apparently the Corners family has had an agenda within CB for generations. What this agenda is isn't known until Ribbons discovers the physical location of Veda and the two of them go there to hack it apart so Alejandro can gain total control of both CB and the world, using CB as a police force.
This leads us to the scruffy pirate named Ali. On the surface he appears to be a merc. Someone who loves war and loves making money off it. His talents go to the highest bidder and eventually is shown to be working for Lagna Harvey leading the viewer to believe he's a member of Lagna's secret internal CB sect. However, we then see Ali killed Lagna. He's taking orders from someone else. And, it turns out this someone else has access to Veda and can reprogram the pilot biometrics of the Thrones through Veda. This leads to two distinct and important trains of thought. The first is that Ali is probably working for Alejandro, since at that point in time Alejandro has complete control of Veda through Ribbons. The second is that the fake GN drives Trinity is equipped with and that have been handed out to the nations of the world are somehow linked to Veda. Given Tieria's finishing move, this is serious foreshadowing to a final fight resolution imo.
When Ribbons finally hacks Veda completely and the image of Schuhenberg shows up again to say "oh crap, my plan didn't work." I get the impression he really was intending for war to be eradicated and now it's all on the original meisters. But remember... 5 GN drives created and only 4 Gundam. Where is the 5th? It's getting late in the season to expect to see it soon. Perhaps Season 2.
