So halloween has come and gone, yes I know my post is a bit delayed, but I'm usually doing other things so I don't do this.
Anyway, I was thinking about what a strange holiday Halloween is. All our lives we're told not to talk to strangers or have anything to do with them, let alone make friends with them. Yet children are encouraged on halloween to go out and accept candy from total strangers, which is a big no no as told by most parents. Not only that, but theres a social stigma on halloween as you get older. So the younger you are, the more okay it is for you to take ...candy from..strangers...what? Look, here's what I'm thinking. We get the older kids to dress up in a number of acceptable costumes, including pirate raiders or ninjas (which naturally would require fighting, as for some reason they've become mortal enemies, an idea created by band nerds, most likely). Older kids can discern better about what they're accepting from people.
In fact, you should only be over 18 to do Halloween. That way if one kid gets poisoned there isn't this whole flare on the news about how some 6 year old got poisoned by some crazy old man, and if they're 18 they're responsible for their own decisions. H
alloween should be something earned after 18 years of training...make it an event, not some stupid "pass go and collect 200 pieces of candy". We should earn it. America doesn't have enough traditional competitions, probably becuase we don't want people to feel bad as a result of them. Think about it: a race around the country for a mega prize of ..something. Not even necessarily candy.
Personally I just think the whole concept of Halloween is a little bizarre. It's probably like valentines day in that it was commercialized into buying tons of crap from stores to give to people who will forget about it in a week.
Oh, I guess I'm finished ith this. Thanks.
