Booze It Up

So I sadly realized recently that I will have to expand my list of things I miss when I'm in Japan to include craft beer (bringing it up to three things, behind Wawa, but before NY style pizza).

Here are some breweries I like (in no particular order):

Dogfish Head
Heavy Seas
Flying Fish
Thirsty Dog (though I haven't seen their stuff in awhile)
Guinness
Heineken
Victory
Lagunitas
Shock Top
Blue Moon
Smutty Nose
Dundee (almost entirely the fault of Miyashita-sensei)
Yards
Iron Hill
Nodding Head
Manayunk
Anchor
Magic Hat
Wolavers (makes THE BEST pumpkin ale)
Elysian
Shipyard
Troegs
Post Road
Pyramid
Dock Street
Otter Creek
T.Y. Harbor (ah, one actually in Japan! ah, their mint summer beer!)
Rogue
Sea Dog
Saranac
Lancaster
Southern Tier
Long Shot

This is by no means all of the beers I like. I've drunk lots of delicious one-offs whose brewers' names are not filed in my memory, and so I couldn't include them here. Pretty much anything to come out of Belgium is guaranteed to be something I'll like, as will be most pumpkin ales or anything that uses honey in the recipe (I'm also a big, big fan of mead). I also really like beers that blend in fruit in a way that's not overpowerfully sweet (though I will always adore Lambic).

It's funny, because I normally don't think of myself as a beer expert. I don't have a lot of great inside information regarding breweries or ingredients or anything like that, I just like beer a whole lot and when I can experiment and find new and exciting and delicious kinds to try, I'm all over it. Thanks to that, and thanks to going to college in Delaware, where it's easier and cheaper to find quality beer, I've drunk A LOT of different kinds of beer.

That makes me feel pretty cool.
