It was quiet, but in these trees it was always quiet. In old days some even called it the forest of silence. But these days people didn't even notice the trees, unless they were in the way for some new development. Luckily this forest with the oldest of trees was located on park land.
A slim figure walked into the trees. She had short bobbed hair and a completely nondescript face. Her eyes were almost the color of mud, however something made you look again something that couldn't be defined in words. She slowly took a couple steps into the woods and light suddenly swirled around her. Her hair lengthened and fell silver around her shoulders. Her ears, no longer the normal rounded shape most modern people were used to, but now stuck out from her hair a good three inches long and thin. Her eyes smiled, now golden.
"I should have known." She tossed the hair behind her and walked quietly to one of the trees. Perhaps the largest around of the bunch. "No being can hide their true self in this sacred wood," she said to the tree. The tree did not seem to respond but the elfin female placed her hand on the trunk of the tree. The tree glowed at her touch. She uttered words so quiet even the trees couldn't pick it up, if they had ears. But something must have heard her for she disappeared and the wood returned to its stilled silence.
