The plant that brought this all on by smelling delicious at the bus stop: Akebia quinata. lakmiseiru brought up pollination, so I found a paper about floral size dimorphism in Akebia that implicates teeny bees.




I always wish star magnolias would smell as lovely as they look. I'm pleased with this picture.




My sweet little saxifrage from QFC last year is blooming already! I divided the $5 quart pot into several little clumps, but this seems to be the only one that took off.




And I almost didn't see this adorable little hepatica blooming next to my slate path under the giant holly tree. It's bright lavender-white and there are loads of flowers this year, so I noticed it when I took out recycling after dark and had to photograph it this morning.
