I have been reflecting on how I play and enjoy LARP recently, and looking at how that evolved. I was wondering if this progression was something that others had experienced as well.
I was entranced by games for the first few years. LARP could almost do no wrong.
After about three years things began to change. I had a harder time enjoying LARPs. LARPs no longer sucked me in and gave me the immersive experience I was looking for. I thought at the time that I had hit a bad patch of games, but know I think I was no longer entranced by them and all I could see was what was wrong with them. I still had great moments in games and that was enough to keep me interested in playing. It also helped that II started writing more in this time period.
Since I have broken through this, I have found a different way of enjoying games. LARPs still don't suck me in but I have found that if I work on having fun then it happens. I am still not entranced by games, but I don't need that anymore. This new way of playing provides for a more consistent enjoyment.
So my question today is: is there a romance period between a new player and LARP? And if there is, what are good ways of maintaining the fun once that period is over?
