Warning: You may not want to read the following if you are squeamish, don't like bugs and/or are eating at the moment.
I got up at 6:30 this morning to take out the trash. Figured my pajamas look enough like a regular t-shirt and shorts, and I didn't think there would be anybody out that early to see me anyway, so I went as was. In the dark, I opened the trash bin and felt something squishy fly onto my foot. I immediately began to shake my foot, knowing that maggot season has begun.
I opened the garage door to let in some light and my suspicions were confirmed -- it was a white, wriggly fly spawn. I examined the lid of the bin. To my surprise, it was covered in little ants. Eesh, thought I , this might be problematic, but look! They were carrying little white things. On one hand, the possibility of being bitten is not that rad, but on the other, it seemed they were feasting upon the fly spawn and making those less of a problem for me. Fantastic! That is, until I opened the our other bin and found that they had decided to make a nest there. Those weren't pieces of yummy, meaty maggot -- those were ant babies they were carrying.
Then I took out the trash, and that was my adventure and a half before seven in the morning.
