Would she have known about something like that, even though she dove into your mind to plant the bit of control in you? Do you think she actually looked at your thoughts and memories? I'm not so sure that your own personal objective was the motive, especially considering the many other people she did it to. And besides, she's a goddess, right? She probably already is immortal, so I don't see why she'd want to stop you from something like that.
I think... being patient and trying not to die is all anyone can really do right now.
The only reason we met the first time was because she noticed one of my entries musing about it and told me that she could help me. She knew exactly what I was looking for, and gave me a comparitably worthless rock instead...
I don't know why she'd want to prevent you from it, though -- she's immortal herself to begin with, isn't she? It seemed to me more like she just wanted to hurt everyone she could, rather than a few specific people.
I remember... my alchemy teacher was searching for the same thing in my world, as well. The Philosopher's Stone, isn't it? He searched the world to find it or something that could create it to escape his own death, because he had become terminally ill. He did eventually pass away, but... is still kind of around, in a way. As funny as it sounds, his soul never moved on to the afterlife, and so he now lives inside his cat's stomach.
Anyway... there is a way to make a Philosopher's Stone in my world, supposedly, using the power of three legendary demons that sleep underneath the island my school is situated on... but I hope those things never have to be touched again by anyone who seeks to misuse them. They were dangerous enough the first and second time.
...Maybe I'm overreacting, but... but everyone else here who I've ever talked to about it has tried to dissuade me, and... I don't know.
He sought it in order to extend his own life, huh? I'm looking for it for a different reason, myself - I couldn't care less if I live forever, personally... He lives inside a cat now, though? Is that comforable?
I don't know your reasons for it, so I can't try to tell you not to do so, in all fairness. He wanted to escape death was the bottom line, and in the end, he didn't quite manage to do so. But he's still around in my world; as around as any ghost could be, I guess. I can't really say if he's happy in his cat's stomach, since I haven't... tried it... but he doesn't seem to mind not going to the afterlife as most others would. At least, he doesn't complain much.
Yeah... I don't think it's quite as elaborate of a field as it is in your world, though. But I bet the basic principles are the same.
It's so that I can secure my place as the next Emperor. If I bring back something that even looks like immortality, I'll be named the heir. The Emperor's word on that is more important than even birth order.
Well, as long as he's not in pain or anything, that doesn't seem like too bad of an existance.
You'd have to ask one of the Elric brothers about whether it works the same way - I'm not an alchemist or a rentanjutsushi, after all. But they probably are at least similar. Ed mentioned something about laws of equivalency once...

...You have alchemy, in your world, then?
