I pride myself somewhat that I can speak relatively good English but I'd be the first to admit that I have no knowledge of the mechanics behind it. Which isn't saying much (except for the expression of my English & Lit teacher when he asked me if I was happy with my O-level results) considering that the standard in the office isn't high to begin with. I just go by gut feel and what sounds right.
So I was recently asked the difference between "have done" and "did". Obviously I have no idea how to explain and in the words of some unknown person, I refered to the "almighty collective" and found out that one is past tense (duh) and the other is present perfect.
Only the first sentence in Wiki's entry makes some sense to me... reading the rest just turns my brain to mush.
I think I'll just stay ignorant (not that I din try to understand!). *sigh*
