M1 to Singtel

This has been one expensive weekend. Finally took the plunge and got a new phone (and no, it’s not again! My contract had expired many moons ago). Thought the deal was too good to miss out on even it’s not one of the must haves like the N95 8Gb. But then, so many people want that so it’ll be quite common (at least that’s what I tell myself).

The queue at Tampines Mall was super long and having misplaced my IC somewhere at home, I brought my passport since it said on a flyer that I printed out that it was acceptable. Finally got to the front just to get my queue ticket and they tell me they need the date of issue of the IC so MUST have the IC. O_O;

So after some coaxing, she went to talk with her manager and her manager said can, provided I sign up under another person’s name (my friends do really carry their IC everywhere! Lucky!) and then 3 months later, change to my name so that I could get corporate rate. I was like, WTF… No choice lor. Apparently, you can only enjoy corporate rate ONLY if you sign up at the beginning (which I couldn’t since I only had my passport which isn’t enough proof of citizenship for ST) and they were making an EXCEPTION for my case.

Whatever.

And to think I was jumping ship from their competitor. You’d think they’d treat me like their GOD, but NOoooo…

Was finally called to the counter and served by this girl. I was impressed with her product knowledge cos I was asking things all over the place. MIO la, corporate plan la, Singnet Broadband promotions… Everything also know. Anyway, once I told her that I wanted the corporate plan and showed her the printout where it clearly stated that IC OR passport, it was smooth sailing. Until I hit a snag. Had to choose a new number. Had to go back to the entrance. Most were yucky… finally settled for one that had some repetition so it would be easy to remember. Somewhat similar to my current number (which can still be used to contact me, BTW). And to think they already had my info in their system since I was using SNBB and still give me so much trouble.

So $288 for the phone and $199 for the hard disk. It’s been an expensive weekend. Must eat grass till payday.
