Well, it's been another week here at the corner of nothing and nowhere.
Fortunately, I find myself not alone. While I still have not heard from DeeAnne (probably won't.. oh well) I have heard from a few old friends that are quite close to me, as the Whitby standard goes. Firstly, early last week I made plans to meet up with someone I knew from high school.. Jay Shakespeare. I met him along with a cadre of others in the Anime club. We started it so we could make a manga.. it turned out that too many chefs spoiled the broth, but it was cool for me at least. The one who started it and organized it was someone named Dwayne Powell.. he had the original plans and drawings. I started to come up with a story, and so did plenty of others. It started with Dwayne organizing most of the meetings, but then he offered that I be his project organizer. So I started helping him out with the meetings. Shakespeare was another story plan writer, and had a lot of friends in the group, so he started to organize the group feedback to Dwayne and I. So it got to be that we would have some interesting planning sessions at the beginning of our little group, and eventually it came down to two ideas that were dualling between the groups. We had two plans, and asked the group to choose one. They sat down and deliberated, and Shakespeare represented the group when he said this: "We'll go with this story plan, but only if you (me) will take up leadership of it." Enter politics. I was selfish enough.. Dwayne and I are great friends.. We talked about it before I accepted. At any rate, the group fell apart anyway. True Roman style. Split into two stories anyway, and then the whole thing lost interest. Shakespeare and I remained friends though. So we hung out.. watched anime, talked about life and politics and philosophy. He's a wonderful philosopher.
Another old friend and somewhat mentor I went and found again was another Jay. This one's Jay Broder. He's a reclusive cyber-punk that has lived in a William Gibson fantasy ever since his worldly travels. Those travels took him through Thailand, India, and China, and took him through a seven year marriage. He's thirty now, and going back into school to become a Systems Security Operative. It's pretty cool what he tells me about and all of his computers in his room and things. We sit.. smoke ourselves stupid. Th'usual. But he did give me an awesome record collection to store for up to and beyond a year.. I took a few from the outset and am waiting to get the rest. Here's a list:
-Bob Marley: Legend
-The Ramones: Ramonesmania
-The Clash: London Calling
-Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bollocks
-The Cure: Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
-Jimi Hendrix: Experience Hendrix
-Desmond Dekker: Compass Point
-Cream: Wheels of Fire
-Batman: Adam West series soundtrack
-Dayglo Abortions: Here Today, Guano Tomorrow
Plenty more where that comes from...Go Jays, Go.
