ok kiddies, so here's the deal. the new harry potter movie has been out for a week, and yet none of you have posted anything about it.
what gives?
i, myself, have yet to see the movie. i blame daniel and his pneumonia. hopefully he'll be feeling well enough soon so that we can go and see it... though i have good hopes for the movie so far. the movie reviewer guy in the star telegram gave it 2 stars. considering i pretty much disagree with EVERYTHING he says, that's almost a guarantee that i'll like it. conversely he gave the goblet of fire 4 stars, and i think that was one of the worst harry potter movies to date - especially when compared to the book. maybe the movie wasn't all that bad, but a good strong main plot would have been nice. or at least, a main plot that's similar to the main plot of the book. because in the book, wasn't the big idea centered around trying to find out who's trying to kill harry. that whole goblet of fire thing was an obstruction in harry's life, one of those things designed by (none other than) the guy trying to kill him. in the movie that whole "harry potter's imminent death" thing took a back seat to the cool graphics of the dragon and the mer-people. there are interesting and deep undercurrents in the book (the distrust of all the old death eaters, the lack of community among wizards and witches of different countries, the corruption of the ministry, the fragility of friendship between ron and harry) that the movie glosses over in order to wow the audience with a prolonged scene of harry in the bath. so in summary, i was disappointed in the goblet of fire.
i have higher hopes for the order of the pheonix. my question to you is this: are these hopes founded in reality? remember, i don't really give a shit about spoilers, so just tell me what you thought of the movie, of the book, of the book compared to the movie...
