I am sorry for all those people who have suffered losses due to Huricanne Katrina. Well, just a bout a month ago, we had similar floodings in Mumbai and my village back home in India. The difference was that Katrina had very strong winds but lasted for 2 days(i guess). On the other hand, the monsoon storm was windy but not like Katrina. But there was rainfall for 7 days continuously. I literally didnt see the blue sky for a week.
Another comparison is that new Orleans is below sea level and Mumbai is city completely build on sea. It was build on 7 seven small islands by dumping mud in the ocean floor and so it is on the sea level. 1200 people have been reported dead in the State of Maharashtra, India due to floods. I dont know the toll in New Orleans and i hope it doesnt break the mumbai record.
But I really appreciate how rescue missions are carried on here. People here are blamming that the police and the government came in late. People in Mumbai never gt any help from the police becasue the cops were trying to save their own family. The coast guard was the only rescue team operating. US deployed 38000 troops for resue, Mumbai just received 5000 troops. The population of Mumbai alone is higher than the population of New York. The media here is actually doing its job of informing the government about the needs and difficuties of people. On the other hand, media in India was busy blamming the government. There are many such things which make me proud of United States. But i am even more proud of people of India, who didnt receive any help but they helped each other. India is a place where the public rules and government is secondary. Afer all this, there is no anger in people's mind against the government casu they knew government did what it can...nothing. May god bless all...
(I am sorry if i hurt anyones feelings by my opinions)
