"My typical day" (a friend had inquired, so I decided to share)

Nov 18, 2009 15:19

7:30 Alarm rings snooze
7:39 Alarm rings again... get up if girls are screaming.. otherwise... snooze
7:48 Get up. Make sure girls are doing what they should, if not, toss out some corner time from my bag of tricks. (corner time is used mostly as a “hey stop that” instead of "you are banished to the ice mines of Mortalina"
7:50 to 8:30 Feed the little one, get ready to head out the door to drop the big one at school.
8:35 Leave late for school due to some unforeseen consequence of something that happened from 7:30 to 8:30
8:45 Drop off big one at school come back home (assuming no side errands like shopping or Doc Appt. or banking etc)
9:00 to 10:30 Work with little one on stuff like alphabet or numbers, or let her watch some eduTV.
10:30 Lunchtime for her, then nap-time.
10:45 to 12 pm Somewhere in there little one decides that nap time isn't play time and yawn falls asleep surrounded in the contraband toys she shouldn't be playing with.
2pm to 3pm Sometime during this time little one wakes up from her nap, gets rid of the matchbox car impression on her face, and comes out from her nap. 50% chance of crankiness from her. I put down what ever I was doing. (Watching NCIS, Playing computer games, Reading) and find out if she slept well despite laying on a mattress of metallic toys 85% chance of crankiness from me... (was just getting to the good bit of said game. book or tv show)
3pm to 3:30 The little one avails me of how I have miss treated her and how to make amends I must look into the goodness in my heart and feed her. it has been almost 4 to 5 hours since she had food... Her stomach has become distended like a Somali refugee... At least in her mind.
3:30 Pick up big one from school.
(Continuation of possible errands)
4:00 Come home set the big one to do homework, and set the little one to not burn the house down with her mind while she waits for her "best playmate ever" to get done with her homework.
4:30 Big one is done with her homework and has started playing with little one.
4:34 First argument between the two. Sprinkle with a fine layer of corner time...
4:41 Second argument... More corner time.
4:48: 3rd argument... See corner.
5:00 I start dinner prep. Having turned on some more eduTV to avoid bloodshed.
5:30 Big one starts doing her night time stuff, cleaning up, getting changed, brushing hair etc...
5:31 Little one, also wanting to do same stuff as big one, gets into turf war over hair brush/pajamas/changing areas etc.. Shots fired.
5:33 Little one is called into the kitchen with me so I can keep an eye on her. As well as so I can interrogate her as to the whereabouts of the gun she used to shoot up my house.
6pm Allie comes home
6:10 Family eats dinner.
6:11 We remind little one that dinner time is for eating... not playing..
6:14 We remind again.
6:18 We get frustrated and reminders take the form of "EAT"!!!
6:30 Annoyance takes over and the little one is pronounced done with dinner. The leftovers to be reheated for lunch tomorrow, As a form of parole from the table.
6:30 to 6:45 Teeth brushing... and checking of said teeth, and then the re-brushing this time with toothpaste...
And then again.. But this time with the brush actually contacting the teeth...
7pm Some sort of family bonding time..
8pm Blissful release from family bonding time a.k.a. Bedtime.
8:08 A reminder is given that bedtime is not play time.
8:16 A remind to the reminder is given.
8:24 A thorough lock-down search of the bed has turned up 15 baby shivs and several contraband toy items. all are confiscated. If much complaining is heard, all involved are sent to “The Hole” (a.k.a. I close the door all the way instead of leaving it a crack)
8:40 Screaming about the indignity of taking away their rights to have a cracked door subsides. As little one has finally fallen asleep on a matchbox car she had hidden from us in her diaper. Mental note, initiate cavity searches before bedtime next week....
8:40 to 10pm. Wonderful silence. We may watch a movie, or talk, or read, or play a game or something else.. but most likely we just clean up a few things and then shuffle off to bed.
Sleep
7:30: Alarm rings... Snooze
