there was one grape left.

the spiny skeleton
tangling it's way outward
blossoming
nearly empty

was severed.
packed.
transported.
unpacked.
presented.
chosen.
purchased.
packed.
transported.
unpacked.
rinsed.

and then

i picked at the
flesh from your bones
one
at
a
time

relishing the sweetness of your meat
nourishing
refreshing

and when there was only one left
one single piece

i paused
looked out at the city
the mountains
down at the chair
my neighbor's house

i listened to a lawn mower
a car
someone riding a bike

thought about people
making love
laughing
exploring
mourning
working
sleeping

i sat in silence
and considered

i considered this
moment
with
just one grape left

and ate it

poem, sunday
