Natterings

Yesterday was the barium swallow. Seriously, who comes up with the taste palette they use for those things? Minty and heavy, the first dose. The next is strawberry-flavored. Then you drink a carbonated citrusy drink (which tries very hard to come back up), then you gulp more strawberry-leaded malted milk. Seriously - bleh.

But the instant digitized images are COOL. I found myself completely entranced, for some reason, looking at the inner curve of my pelvis. The vertebrae I could see in the X ray were also fascinating.

On other fronts, my poor hard drive has died. After many struggles, it gave up the ghost this morning. However, a good friend who tinkers with computers came over and poked about, then asked if we wanted the computer he had in the back of the truck. Heck, yeah! So I have a blindingly fast FREE machine... and he thinks he can recover all of my data from the crisped drive.

Which is why I am (mostly) not freaking out about the unfinished prose and poetry on the drive. Yet.

Mom is out of the hospital and has agreed to home health care, which she would need in any case, but the spectre of assisted living made the argument no more than symbolic. She now has an oxygen machine that she is tethered to, just like my MIL. Seriously folks, if you smoke, STOP NOW. Emphysema sucks dead donkey dick.

I know - my metaphors make even me wonder if I have lost all that much great fiction on that drive.
