Tsunami warnings

Mar 11, 2011 20:47

I was awakened this morning at 4:43 a.m. by a call from BFF#1. 3 minutes later, BFF#2 called. Both were worried about the tsunami warnings for the CA coast. (I have wonderful friends!) Surprisingly, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center wasn't as much help as it could have been. But local news said we'd be fine, although they were warning surfers that they could not surf a tsunami...because it was the wrong kind of wave.

(I will pause while you consider that)

Not because it's batshit insane to surf a tidal wave; not because you could die far too easily; not because the debris and petrochemicals are bad for you and could crush you or poison you. No - because it's the wrong kind of wave, dude.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan and China and the Pacific Rim who have suffered greatly.

I fly out tomorrow morning at 7 am for an interview in NJ. I have just realized that I forgot to prepare a lesson to teach. Punting, here I come!
