An epistolary rant

Dec 13, 2010 20:58

It's not that I don't appreciate your support and expression of affectionate concern during what is a difficult period for me, professionally. Really, I do. I am even down with the teary smears of lipstick on my ear. It is nice to know that you have benefited from my work and my efforts to be the human face of the religious organization to which you belong and that you acknowledge that I work hard to teach the values my religion asks of us.

HOWEVER, please do not assume that, because I am slated for non-renewal, that all my loyalty, professionalism, collegiality and human decency has also taken flight. I honestly don't want to hear about how you are convinced that the rabbi/cantor/early childhood educator/rabbinic graduate of congregant/president/the Board is to blame for the sorry state of the temple these days. Please stop blaming "them", especially if you do not sit on a committee, the Board nor ever attend the annual meeting, send in your proxy or participate in the long-range planning focus groups. I intend to keep doing my job, to keep supporting my colleagues and the Board (heretofore referred to as "my bosses") and my teaching staff. I know it would be more fun if I shrieked, ranted and pointed accusatory body parts all over the temple. But that's what LJ is for.

And, to the smaller but more interesting conspiracy theory group, I swear there is no scandal here. Honest. I have not slept with the president/cantor/rabbi/a student. I have not run over the dog/child/foot/open sewer line/sacred Indian burial ground of the president or any Board member.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Sincerely yours,

Fed-Up Educator (Resume available on demand)
