A good weekend

Saturday was busy, with a bar mitzvah in the morning, then a special concert at the temple in the evening. Somehow, it actually came off really well, despite my colossal inability to get anyone to actually do what they said they would do at the time they said they would do it. Including myself, dammit. But the concert was great, very spiritual and chanty and well-received.

Sunday, we went down to the Getty with a group of friends, wandered a few galleries and saw the Medieval scriptorium exhibit. There was a book there on fighting with edged weapons and the page was opened to the best methods of attack for someone using a dagger against someone wielding a dagger and a club. Intriguing and all the vectors sketched out in gold ink.

Then we checked out the Rembrandt & His Students exhibit wherein they tried to teach the viewer to be an art critic and to determine which sketches were the master's and which were the students'. I discovered that I don't actually care for Rembrandt's style as much as I liked that of some of his students. Oh well! Hopelessly iconoclastic.

We actually went for a concert of Persian music with Mamak Khaled and her band and wound up really enjoying it a great deal. Great percussion and she has a lovely, soaring middle eastern alto voice. Nice Persian music, including some Rumi poetry set to music.
