I keep hearing/reading of folks being able to hit man sized targets at 400+ yards with an AR dressed up with scopes, heavy barrels, trick ammo, etc. Even though I'm not from Missouri, show me.
I've done a LOT of shooting and have not witnessed anyone, ever, hit at 400 yards with an AR. Not saying it can't be done, just rare, I've never seen it, and most people over-estimate their abilities. I've been at the range siting in at 200 plus yards with folks shooting AR's and never witnessed one hit at 400 yards+.
Most people can't hit a deer at 400 yards with a bolt action scoped rifle using more stable and heavier bullets. There was an African hunting episode with veteran shooter/writer Larry Weishuhn missing a giant antelope at ~250 yards with a scoped big bore resting on shooting sticks and he's probably put more rounds down range than 99% of the population.
I've hit gallon milk jugs of water at 200 yards with a 6" revolver. Doesn't mean I could do it if they were shooting back at me.
I'll put out a standing bet. If you are in Southern Arizona before the end of the world and can hit at 400+ yards with your AR in three tries (starting cold) dinner is on me.
