Y'know, women around the world deal with a lot of shit. Not always, and not in all places at all times, for sure, but nevertheless. And it's really easy to look at the horrible things done to women outside of our country, particularly when we look at the people the U.S. is at war with. I mean how can we not want to bring democracy and women's rights to the Middle East? We don't advocate the kinds of double standards that make women responsible (and punished, sometimes by death) for being raped, do we? ...Do we?
Well, maybe not publicly. It's much easier to hide the fact that
women in the army have died of dehydration because they don't want to have to pee at night because their male counterparts are waiting at the latrines to sexually assault them. Because we're different from those barbaric Muslims, right?
