I firmly believe that, in movies, just because a clever attorney can make someone have an outburst on the stand, it doesn't necessarily mean that that person is guilty.

I've seen two courtroom dramas in the last few days where the outburst has been something relatively unrelated, like, "I LOVE CHICKEN DAMMIT!" and the court goes silent. (slow pan of jury, some of which are shaking their heads in disapproval) The judge, following this outburst, immediately forgets the last 30 seconds that he's spent threatening the lawyer with contempt and furiously banging his gavel.
