I should be working.

Have any of you guys heard of the Arctic Monkeys? Honestly hadn't heard a peep out of them in the states, then came across a few articles that said they were burning up the airwaves in europe.

So little ol' me plucked a CD off of the amazon.com tree. It's really not half bad, not something I'd listen to over and over and over, but still pretty good.

Anyway, I'm working the blood bank section of work now, no more microbiology. Anyone want their blood type screened?

Oddly enough, apparently asking for someones blood type is much like asking for a zodiac sign in Japan. Some of them consider it a key factor in making romantic decisions.

Apparently being O - positive means that I'm out going, out going enough to get it tatted on my lower left arm even to those of you who haven't seen the pictures.

I clash with Lily though, she's a conservative A - positive. I imagine that means we're not destined to be together. Shame.

A little education out of this journal entry.

The A, B, and O portion of your blood type is correspondent to the similarly lettered antigens contained on your red blood cells. The positive and negative portion refers to the presence of the D antigen (referred to as Rh short for rhesus). If the D antigen is present then your positive, if it's lacking then your blood type is negative.

If your negative your blood type isn't set in stone though, through pregnancy or transfusion you can become sensitized to the D antigen changing your blood type to positive. This can be particularly harsh on a prenate however.

So maybe there is some sense in choosing a mate based on blood type, an Rh positive male mating with an Rh negative female presents a greater risk of trauma to a child.

Feel educated?
