One can argue that gay marriage would be DIFFERENT than two heterosexual people getting married thus "civil unions" should be fine for two gays. I get it, because in whatever Catholic, or Protestant or Jew vow you preached (or were preached to), it said to go against two people of the same sex you wanna live by it, "hate the sin not the sinner". Whatever.
The fact of the matter is, in the Land of the fucking free, its not the GOVERNMENTS place to tell me who I can and cannot marry. There is a seperation of church and state, there are documents written to protect MY freedom and Prop 8 takes them away. Its completely LUDACRIS to think that in the United States two gay persons are denied the right to marry. If someone doesn't agree with gay marriage, then they don't have to have one.
Our society isn't "ready" for it? Homosexuality has been around from the dawn of time. Whether or not homo-couples will recieve a tax break because of their lawful decision to marry, THERE WILL STILL BE GAY COUPLES. It doesn't make gay people distinct.
Whether or not you believe no one "chose" to be gay, just as you and I didn't CHOOSE to be straight, "civil unions" are excluding the whole economic matter of marriage.
Bottom line, people can debate whether or not homosexuality is right, just, okay, "society-ready" til they're blue in the face. What people can't deny is the fact that making decisions for other people, or leaving it to the government, is fucking ridiculous. Prop 8 should have passed just like I should be able to tell everyone to be a Libertarian and have the government regulate it, or the Mormons should enforce everyone to believe their faith and attend their churches.
