Cheerleaders, betas, and pinch-hit artists - round two!

Oct 19, 2012 08:48

Bangs are always that little bit easier with a support network in place.

Cheerleaders are people who encourage a writer or artist when they're down, or stuck with their project. They can be soundings boards for ideas, helpers when it comes to characterisation, and a source of encouragement in those dim hours when it looks like the work will never be finished.

You don't have to be an endless fountain of optimism to be a cheerleader, and you don't have to e-mail your partner five times a day with messages of encouragement (though you're allowed to if you want). You just need to be friendly and helpful. And in your time off, you don't even have to be those things.

Betas are people who pick up on spelling mistakes, rescue abused commas, and offer the amazing service of saving writers from our foolish mistakes. They can also beta for artists, by looking over a concept sketch or tweaking the track order of a fanmix.

All story betas have a strength - be it grammar, spelling and/or punctuation, right up to pointing out plot holes and OOC-ness, or simply just getting a story back to the author quickly. Be sure to pimp out your skill set when filling out the form.

Pinch-hit artists are worth their weight in gold. They are people who can read a long fic and manage to produce something amazing on a very, very short time-frame. As frustrating as it must be for them to churn something out so quickly, the results are always appreciated.

jimmybigbang is very flexible about what counts as art. You can podfic a story, make a mix, a vid, graphics, manips (both the amazing kind, and the 'so bad it's good' kind), themed doilies, act out a scene with finger puppets, make some lolcats, make alphabet-soup that spells out the title. And, if you're a pinch-hitter, you can be even more creative.

If you are signed up as a writer or artist, yes, you can still sign up for a support role.

You can sign up for multiple support roles.

If life gets hectic, you are able to bow out of your support role at any time.
