Killing time on the Comfort

So, the first 2 weeks of this operation were balls to the wall 20 hour days where we'd be recieving some pretty fucked up people from shore. My area was that bad, mainly because I work ship's sickcall and really only see crew members. I did volunteer down in CASREC a couple days and it was crazy. I saw a couple amputations roll in, a guy that had a juglar access line in because he'd been crushed, when he got on board a central line was dropped in him. I also saw a chest tube inserted on somebody.

Then I got roped into going over immunizations for the ship's crew. A long (4 days or more)process that was neccesary, but I'd rather of done other stuff. It was neccesary because to be honest, most people didn't get their crap done before hand, though less the 12hr notice isn't ideal for a mission either.

It's been down hill after those first two weeks, all the earthquake victims were either treated here or ashore or already dead. A few none earthquake related patients slipped onboard but after that it was mainly severely injured service members that would be brought on board every now and again. If you're wondering why we aren't treating Haitians that aren't earthquake related, its simple, we'd never be able to leave and this isn't the kind of mission that the Continuing Promise missions are, nor are we the Peace Corps. We really shouldn't be treating the service members either, there are field hospitals set up. What are they going to do when we pull out? Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen may be in Haiti for a while but we are set to be coming back within the first half of this month, though that could just be rumor.

I hope it's not, you can only clean the same area so many times before it becomes an act of futility. Though that is better than sitting around either watching movies or with our thumbs up our asses.

Anyways, that is about it other than for me to say this one thing from the last time I was here in Haiti. It's not the much worse than before, excluding the collasped buildings and tent cities, otherwise this place is just as jacked up as before and its been that way for a long time.

Sorry if you were expecting a more Colby Buzzel type slant, but I would have had too of been updating this from day one.

You guys stay safe, I'll post when we've pulled anchor and are underway to the states again.
