(no subject)

The next time you have a religious argument with someone, or any argument for that matter, and they say "well that's just a theory" tell them YES...yes it is. and never rebut with "no, it's fact."

Today my Astronomy instructor redefined fact, theory, and hypothesis in a way that gave me a new understanding of all of them, and basically a trump card for any religious debate. (this probably is not news to most of you, but I'm excited about it.)

A theory is something that has failed to be unproven. It's a hypothesis, or set of hypotheses, that has withstood remarkable amounts of testing and experimentation only to come out on top, practically set in stone. theory is NEVER fact, but a way to explain one or several facts.

so whereas things such as evolution and the big bang are THEORIES, religion remains a hypothesis because it cannot be tested. you can study it, but any "experimentation" will never end fruitful because it deals in the supernatural, and science, REAL science (as opposed to pseudoscience),  does not.

I don't see why people continue to hold onto archaic ideals, ignoring countless scientific breakthroughs, and attempt to shove those beliefs in my face.

...If there is a hell, I'll see you there.

in other news...

I'm running a blog again that's probably going to overtake LJ sadly. I'm going to attempt to start writing stories and observations/thoughts in an attempt to gain some readers/practice my journalistic skills, if anyone's interested in following along...
