[H3.5] recap without an intriguing title.

Oct 15, 2008 22:55

Pre-Heroes! So I am watching the Project Runway finale (I missed the first run while watching the debate), and I haaaate Kenley! But, my hatred is tempered by the fact that she was pissy to my boy Tim Gunn this entire season without knowing that suprise!, he's the last-minute substitute judge for the finale. She was all, "His opinion doesn't matter!" but now it does. Does this fall under the umbrella of that German-sounding word that means "liking to watch people fail"? (That is what it means, isn't it?) Oh man, I hope she doesn't win!
And now... Hereos. So, episodes like this are the reason I write my notes during the initial viewing. That way, if it sucks, I don't have to sit through it again. This is one of those times. Episode five... not-so-good. But last week was good and next week looks alright, so there's at least that to fall back on.

Good
HRG:  See, that is how you treat someone who constantly tries to murder you and your annoying teenage daughter family. HRG tries to kill Sylar... constantly. Finally an aspect of this partnership I can get behind! I think they should incorporate this into every episode. What unknown villain will HRG try to use to kill him next week? There are so many ways it can go! Bonus applause for continuing to be rude to Sylar even after he saved Claire from what seemed to be the weakest vortex in history. I was afraid that would be some sort of Turning Point and that they would Agree To Disagree and everything would be all Water Under the Bridge and the Slate would be Wiped Clean and I would cry tears of anger and frustration as my beloved HRG was sacrificed on the altar of We Must Keep Sylar Around By Any Means Necessary. (Note: This in no way reflects my lack of faith in HRG. It instead reflects my lack of faith in the writers who write HRG.) But no! HRG understands that once someone tries to kill you (or Lyle!) it's on! And he will not rest until he has his revenge. Bravo, Noah, Bravo!

Angela: She was good, but now I can't remember what she did to get up here. I remember her almost being Sylarized by Peter, and Sylar stopping it, but then what? I'll have to come back to this.

Nathan: First off, viva la Nathanlogue! Petrellilogue sounds better, but it's not specific enough, so it kind of fails. I don't wanna hear Claire or Peter rambling on and on, but Nathan? Excellent! This episode started of so well. Anyway, I continue to enjoy watching Nathan struggle with not being in control. He's got crazy Nightmare!Linderman following him around trying to tell him what to do. Tracy did not want him to know about her power and what was causing her issue with being special. Peter is in an Angela-induced coma. And, to top it all off... he was the subject of human experimentation, at the hands of his parents. Ouch! Lucky for Nathan there are no other mind-blowing, maybe family -related, bombs just waiting to be dropped. Just imagine if he had like a spare brother he never knew about! Man, wouldn't that be crazy?! Of everything in this "Sylar's a secret!Petrelli!" angle, Nathan's reaction is the thing I am most waqiting for. (Because clearly, Peter's reaction of 'Oh." was underwhelming to say the least.)

Speaking of Nathan's family, he showed concern about Claire or Peter being the subject of experiments. On one hand -- how sweet. On the other... Monty and Simon? Do those names sound familiar? We have not forgotten about your family, Senator Petrelli... why does it seem you have? (Answer: writers! ::shakes fist::)

(Random: everythime a commercial for "W" comes on, I think "I kind of want to see that." I am not sure if it's because, as I said before, I like watching people fail, or if it's because the inclusion of "Once In A Lifetime".)

Adam: The only time Hiro is even remotely tolerable is when he is interacting with Adam. Is it because Adam makes Hiro act like an actual grown-up? No. Is it becase Adam is generally great, so when Hiro is on screen with him, I don't have to pay attention to Hiro. But, I enjoed the interaction at the gravesite. There was something Adam said there that made me laugh, but I can't rememebr what it was. I think there were two things. I am too lazy to look for my notes. So let's just stick with "something made me laugh" and move on. clearly I am putting a lot of effort into this.

(More Random: I just saw a commercial for my job. I have never ever seen a commercial for my jobbefore. It was kind .. good grief, there's another one! Anyway, as I was saying, it was weird. My job sucks.)

Maury: Nightmare Man! I don't know how they got him free from his own nightmare (which, if you don't recall, was living back at the same place he lived with young Matt Parkman.) but I'm happy. As I told bean, every this show needs more evil, so I'm glad to see him back! Hopefully he will not continue this season's tradition of bad guys going out like suckers. Plus, he already did that last season, so this time he deserves better.

Knox: What's up with the serial killer van, Knox? No one should ever trust anyone who drives a serial killer van!

Bubbles Vortex: Just as soon as I get used to having Marlo (dealer) and Bubbles (junkie) on one show again, one of them is viciously yanked from me! Where am I gonna go to get my Wire alumni fix now? (I'll watch Beadie on The Office, but the day I tune in to the CW to see Michael on 90210... shoot me.) Of course I did not expect him to stay around long, that's the way things go on Heroes. But, I enjoyed him while he was around (which says alot, because I haaaaaated Bubbles. And udually if you play a part I hate, my hatred tends to carry over to everything else you do.) He showed us what people outside of our lil circle of heroes think of The Company. He gave us a first-hand account of the way they do things. Kidnapping people in the dead of night? No trial? No jury? Not cool, Company, not cool! Where's the due process in that? Plus, I always enjoy a good dangerous power. What good could come of a man who can create vortexes (vortices?)? Probably nothing.... unless you have a serious cleaning job to do.

Nightmare!Linderman: Nightmare Man! I like it! Linderman is already pretty cool, so a Linderman who exists only as a Parkman-induced figment of one's imagination? Even better!

Arthur: So far... he just kind of laid there. I guess I would have been more excited if 1)I had not read about it months ago and 2) There was not a commercial heralding his arrival (as well as other future spoilery things) during last week's episode of "The Office".

Spoilers: I read a spoiler about an actor who played a character I liked (maybe) coming back. And another one about them trying to work around things to bring back another character I liked. I am not sure how they could do one of them (the other there seems to be a sort of loophole through which he or she could reappear) but honestly, the way things are headed, I'll soon be willing to take whatever I can get with this show.

Bad
Spoilers: I read a spoiler I hate about a character I really like dying. I won't say who, but it's gonna be soon. And it's gonna suuuuck! I also read spoiler I am ambivalent about about a character I don't really care about dying. How come it's never "a character I hate"? Seriously, it seems the only way to never die on this show is to be somone I can't stand.

Claire: Who goes in pretty much unarmed to take down a "villain" with a power which you do not know? Claire, that's who! I know it's a tv show, but why does everyone act so impulsively all the time? In what universe was that a good idea? I really wanted her to get sucked into that first vortex, even is it did mean I did not get to see the whole "Vortex shows us what out-of-the-loop people think about The Company" thing.

Hiro: I assume he did not actually kill Ando. I don't know how he did it, but he did not kill Ando. Why? Because Hiro is a wuss.

Daphne: Every time she makes that stupid sassy pouty face I wish I could choke out fictional characters.

Mohinder: Really now, do people still like this guy? Are they still justifying his actions with "He meant well" or "He thinks without acting" and stuff like that? Does his "prettyness" still get him a pass? How pretty does one have to be in order for bodies cocooned up on the walls to be a non-issue? He's not even interesting "bad"... just bad. So bad I can't even muster up enough anger.

(Random Again: I am really done with that whole "I broke up with this dude and he keeps sending me emails and IMs about how sad and depressed he is! What do I do?!?!" thing. Come on, it's been like three months now! THREE MONTHS!! I can't even feign interest anymore. I used to say things like "Tell him to cut it out, it's getting old and none of us care anymore.", but now I have passed through that stage and am employing Operation: I'm Gonna Ignore Your IMs And Pretend I'm Not Even Here. Does that make me a bad friend? Things like this are the reason I don't really answer the phone. I don't have the attention span for Drama That Never Ends.)

Other Stuff
Rampant Speculation: So, I think that Gabriel was either the result of an experiment gone bad and was ditched because of that or the experimenters found out that he was too powerful and shipped him off to a place where no one knew what he was, in order to save him (and everyone else) from himself. No one knew what he could do, and he would have lived out life relatively normal if not for that meddling doctor. Perhaps in teh search to create a person who could absorb others' powers, he was the buggy beta version and Peter is the finished product. Of course this is all moot if the two of them are naturally powered. That is one thing I have yet to see a spoiler for.

Random Complaint The First: Also, what is up with the assumption that because Claire is blonde and cannot die, she is Adam's descendent? I don't know, it probably is true, but it just seems like a stretch to go "blonde hair. Check. Can't die. Check. Must be related to Adam."

Random Complaint The Second: So the official answer for how Sylar had Ted and Isaac's powers in the future is ::gasp:: "It was in the future!" I am both shocked and amazed at this supremely clever explanation. This whole Sylar's powers thing is just stupid. No matter how you look at it, it makes no sense. He lost all of his powers? Okay? Oh wait.. all but the one he used all the time. Well, if you say so. But.. in the future he has back two of the powers he used to have but doesn't right now. Really? Oh, it 's becase that was in the future and anything could have happened between now and then. So, you can do whatever you want now, then just write an episode, set it in the future and then go "Yeah, all of that stuff in the present? Forget about that." Yeah, okay then. Only, not. I hate everyone who writes for this show. And this is aside from the whole "hunger" thing, which is so stupid, I'm not even going to bother with it.

Next Week: Was that Adam And Knox? Hooray! Mohinder injecting Nathan with some mystery substance? Whatever-the-opposite-of-Hooray! is.
