You know how I get into phases where I intensely listen to the same artist for months (sometimes years) on end and then one day, I'm like "That's enough. On to the next thing!" Well, the last one was Depeche Mode, and it's been nearly two years and I started to get bored and I was kind of in an in-between period, and then I watched this video by a group I knew next-to-nothing about. I mean, I knew who they were, and could identify the members, and knew a little about their lives and personalities, but musically I could only name one song (that I didn't even like, and that the first time I heard I was like, "Ugh!" because I'd crossed a boundary I could never uncross... like hearing a Miley Cyrus or Little Wayne or Justin Bieber song. Of course none of these were the sorts of thing I would never admit in public because... well, you will see.
Anyway, I thought the song was good enough, but the video was funny, so not the worst way to waste 6:13, right? But then, as is known to happen, the song lodged itself in my head and I could not shake it. Days on end, there it was. So... I downloaded it. And listened to it... alot. And then I figured I'd check out some other songs and found out that they weren't that bad at all. My sister blames herself. She thinks that making me listen to the Backstreet Boys in preparation for the concert opened me up to the sorts of things I normally should be heckling relentlessly. I told her it wasn't her fault. I don't fight it. I go where my ears take me, even if they take me to places I originally though (sometimes with no good reason), "I hate ____!" And this does not just mean corny things that most folks my age are "supposed to" hate, but generally accepted Legendary acts like The Beatles and The Who.
So... I seem to have become a One Direction fan.

This is the song that started it all. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good video. Also, I love the whole "let's dress up in costumes and play multiple characters!" thing. Like Coming To America, only with more upbeat pop/rock and less Arsenio Hall.

And then I heard that they covered One Way Or Another, which is a song I think it is impossible for me to dislike. And the video was stupidly cute and the song so catchy that... well, here we are.
They're coming here next fall, and I would totally go see them, just for the experience. But there is almost no situation where I can imagine myself in an arena full of high-pitched screaming that does not involve me yelling at teenage girls to "Shut up! I'm trying to hear the music!"
I should probably be at least a little embarrassed (okay, I am), but they seem harmless, they've got great personalities and I genuinely like their music, so I figure why not just go with it? Of course, at this rate, my next music-related post will be "Guys! Have you ever heard of The Wiggles?! They are awesome!"
