I am a military brat. My dad was career air force. With a college education, you want to go in as an officer. For one thing, think about that test. Was it difficult? Right. Now think about what the average person who takes that test gets on that test. Okay. Now, do you want to be hanging out with those people and having them tell you what to do? Right. You would find some of them unenlightened. (to say the least).
The only reason for a smart boy like you to go in enlisted would be to get uncle sam to pay for college, but you don't need that.
Keep in mind that we are at war. My grade school bud scored 100% on the test and was promised the world but still ended up hiding from sand spiders in a tent in Kuwait for eight months. And she was a girl, so the chances of her actually facing combat were supposedly slim.
Go through officers training school and they will pay for your masters and phd and get you some work experience in a military hospital and then when you get out, you can write your own ticket.
Sorry to mom you, but you are a very, very nice boy and there are far too few of you for them to be tossing you out of airplanes at desert terrorists. A wicked waste, I would call that. But it sounds like you already have your own value firmly in mind. Keep it that way!!!
Every single job ever will always have some, at the gate indeterminate, amount of shit you have to deal with. The process of picking a career comes out of weighing that shit as vs the benefits putting up with what that shit gets you. If I spend eight months hiding from spiders in the desert in return for approx $100k in education, a very reasonable salary, in addition to work experience, job training, a high level security clearance, and a recommendation to the FBI, CIA, and DOD about how awesome I am... That seems worth it to me.
