In the SLA game that Leslie and I are playing in, we recently came across a situation that we have two different ways of approach, listed below as Approach 1 and Approach 2. Threw this up on my facebook, throwing it up here as well to see what y'all think.

Situation: Six months ago an unknown biological weapon was deployed upon a civilian populace, transforming those affected into zombies. The zombies created by the weapon are reported to only be nocturnally active, though the chaos and confusion of the period puts the validity of this report into question. After the biological weapon obliterated the populace, orbital bombardment by enemy spacecraft of all noteworthy locations began and reduced most of the planet's standing buildings to rubble. In the last four months, a steadily growing band of survivors has been banding together for mutual protection and, as their numbers peaked at thirty-five, Command has authorized a mission to extract them. In the last report we received from the survivors, their numbers fell to twenty-five, seeming to insinuate their situation has become even more dire. Tactical situation on the ground is still unknown at this point, though estimated threat level is red.

Primary Objective: Recover between twenty and thirty civilians trapped inside of a fortified warehouse.

Secondary Objective: Locate and extract another nearby band of survivors, suspected to be holed up inside an arms factory.

Approach 1: The squad will be dropped planetside via shuttlecraft and allowed the use of an APC (armored personnel carrier). The nearest landing zone suitable for the APC's deployment is some ten miles from the primary objective, meaning that the squad will have to approach through the ruins of the city. Upon reaching the primary objective, the squad will evacuate the primary group of survivors into the APC and return to the landing zone to extract that set of survivors. If the mission parameters remain intact, after seeing the primary set of survivors off-planet, the squad will repeat this approach on the secondary objective.

Approach 2: The squad will deploy directly onto the roof of the primary objective via parachute/rappel. They will obtain entrance into the building and then lead the primary survivors onto the roof, where they will be evacuated via airlift back into orbit. A repetition of this same method will be applied to the secondary objective the next day, risk factors permitting.

Notes: Considering the estimated threat level for this op is red, Approach 1 carries a higher chance of the secondary objective being completed, though the risk factors to the squad itself increase by a significant margin. Approach 2 reduces the risk factors to the squad, but also reduces the probability of the secondary objective being completed.

Thoughts? Which approach would you advise?
